Unhappy Am I missing something re:MMS

Please Login to Remove!

I tried taking a video and putting into an MMS. There is no way to do this that I can see. I have friends that send me video embedded MMS all the time. Why won't my Bold do this?

You're running handheld OS 5.0.0.x on this Bold?

A couple of questions. I assume you have a data plan. What kind of video are you trying to send and what size is it? I know that if you take a video on the Bold, after you stop the video there should be a series of icons down at the bottom. The one on the far right that looks like an envelope is the one that will allow you to send it via email or MMS.

You can also send a MMS by composing one and hitting the menu key and scroll down to add video. There is a limit on the size of the video you can send, I'm not sure what it is though.

yeah, I used the Envelope on the lower right to send, The problem it seemed is the video was too long so it exceeded the allowable MMS size. So, I tried again making smaller video and send MMS. Sent to 2 people, 1 w/ BB and 1/w WinMo... WinMo could not view the video. Unknown filetype.. so it seems I can only send MMS w/video to other BB users.. that really stinks. Why is it so hard for makers to use a standard like Mpeg instead of some proprietary crapola..

Yeah, the files are saved with a 3GP file extension. They do that because of file size.

Actually, 3gp is not proprietary to RIM and is the standard video format that most handset makers (Nokia, S-E, etc) are using (especially with non-PDA/smartphone type handsets), and as specified by by the Third Generation Partnership Project

3GP files are similar in structure to MPEG-4 (MP4) files, but have a number of key differences which significantly reduce file sizes thus reducing the bandwidth required for the transfer of media between 3G devices.

It may have been possible that the person you sent the video with a WM device had an older version OS.

I was able to send a video in a MMS message and I have a 9000 using .247. Only the size limit was a problem, which I have no idea what that is, does anyone? Can it be changed?
