You can download/install SP2 without Roxio, it's a separate 53meg download from the RIM site. Go to this page:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

Select "BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.2 Service Pack 2" from the list, Next. On the next page, search for "Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 without Media Manager (English)" (about half way down) and you'll see the download link for the smaller, non-Roxio version for grabbing.

FWIW, tethering to a TomTom 510/710 for "PLUS Services" (wireless data, traffic, etc.) still doesn't work.

Weird, I didn't have to delete the vendor.xml and it still worked.

Consider yourself lucky. This is my first upgrade and I'm having no end of problems. I'm finding that the Mac support for anything even relatively complicated is poor if possible at all (I kinda expected that even before my purchase). Parallels seems to suck the life out of trying anything (or maybe it is windows since I have not used it in 7 years). I'm trying vmware fusion now...if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to take one of my FreeBSD boxes and install XP on it for occasions that I want to upgrade. ...but I digress

LOL!!! That why I will not upgrade unless I have to (system crash, etc). I upgraded only once since I received my Pearl In December. I am running .71 and no issues.

After this OS upgrade my MMS messages will sometimes fail to send. It doesn't even have a delay before sending; I press send and it immediately turns into a red X. Then an hour later it'll be working fine.

Another problem I'm having has been around for several past OS releases. When holding asterisk (*) to keylock, the display takes about 10 seconds to shut off after it locks. In earlier releases it would shut off in about one second. This is annoying because I'll stick it in my pocket while I'm walking, and if the display is still on then my pocket will keep rolling the trackball and it'll just stay on.

I don't like to use standby, because with keylock I can easily take it out and press any button to check the time and see if I have any new messages, then slip it back in my pocket.

I did finally get it to upgrade. After futzing around with parallels and fusion I decided I was just being stubborn and grabbed an old windows box at work. The upgrade was seamless on a windows system, which made me very happy since I can now break out my sms/mms messages from my emails, which was the only reason I upgraded but it also made me a little disheartened because things that are written for only one system frustrate the holy heck out of me since I purposely write all of the things I author to work on any Unix system Mac or PC or I just make them web apps. Granted, I am no great developer. .....maybe someday they'll make it happen for us Mac/Unix folks. We can always dream.

I don't use any custom ringtones, but the one I do use (Ringer_Ratrace) disappeared in this OS version.

Same for me. I'm running V4.2SP2 Desktop Manager and loaded the 4.3.1.164/101 firmware without deleting the vendor.xml file.

Does this "feature" only work for TMobile 8100's?

Hmmm.

I loaded the new OS but didn't remember to replace the blackberry.alx before doing so. Can I load it after without having to go through the whole lengthy backup and install process again?

Are there any other themes worth loading?

And is there a way to get my old TMobile theme back (with the application list instead of icons)?

Alright, last message for the night (morning).

I've played around with this new software and I'm getting some serious hourglassing as compared to 4.2.0.64. Hourglassing just about everywhere. And even noticing that the trackball is a bit sluggish sometimes.

I did a backup and restore when I loaded the new OS.

Running these apps. All work OK. All are latest versions.

Opera 4 beta
Beamberry
Google Maps
Beyond 411

I've done a battery pull after the install. No help. Any suggestions?

Phone, software, everything work fine. Its just S-L-O-W.

**UPDATE**
I had Blackberry security enabled (password/encrypt). This setting transferred over form the old OS. I removed my old password and disabled security. Then re-enabled it and set a new password. This has helped to improve performance somewhat.

Its still not as snappy as I'd hope, but its now about on par with my old software except for the occasional lengthy hourglassing I run across in Google Maps, Internet Browser or Opera 4. Blackberry really needs to work on improving performance and memory handling.

I've noticed the lags also. I get the hour glass quite a bit where before this OS version I didn't, other than that everything works fine. I'm going to switch back to my Curve though

Yes you can just replace the blackberry.alx file in directory and reconnect your BB then open Desktop Manager it will install the .alx file.

Does this version support A2DP? John Clark stated in a previous conversation that it probably wouldn't be enabled until the 4.2.2.x OS...but my fingers are crossed...

Thanks!!!
If you use the program called multiplay by Dollars 5 Complete, you can listen to music through a bluetooh headset. I have a Motorola H700 and I am able to listen to my music.
