Default Latest 8120 OS: Orange UK - v4.3.0.178 / 4.3.0.105 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

I figured we were due for an update and low and behold......

Quote:
Software For BlackBerry 8120 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.3.0.178 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.3.0.178
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.3.0.105
Software Platform: 2.6.0.60
File name: 8120M_PBr4.3.0_rel178_PL2.6.0.60_A4.3.0.105_Orange _UK.exe
File size: 109.82MB
Download link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...223C61B1B5AB89

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

Agreed, nice and clear.

New version seems to have fixed the freeze-up when press/hold Send key, also in Manage Connections.

I just have one quick question. I recently purchased an unlocked 8120 and I've been using it on Rogers (Canada) no problems, but I'm having no luck connecting to any wifi signal.

Can I load this OS into the phone? My instincts tell me no and I would quite possibly re-lock the unit, but I figured I'd check first...

Default O/S update

I have a question for the group. I would really like to upgrade my 8120 O/S as I seem to be suffering from it really running slow, however in the past everytime I upgraded my O/S I was always never able to reconnect to my BES. BIS connection was always fine but I always have to ask my BES admin to reset my account.
Is there anything I can do to avoid this?

Cheers,

-Kerr

if your device is running slowly check the under options > status then post the file free. if you dont have 12mb minimum (recommend 15-20mb) then you will have issues with your device acting strangely, showing the hourglass, deleting call logs/SMS, etc. As for the BES, just ask your IT admin to set the activation password so that you can reactivate wirelessly when the upgrade is finished.

Default RE: O/S Update

Thanks for the reply. My 8120 never shows any more than 14MB of free mem. It did when I first got it but after a week or so of use it went down to about 14 and hen from there slowly goes down until I have to reset it.
As for the BES thing. This is what I have to do after every upgrade, all the admin and have him reset my password (to the same password) and then my device reconnects. Weird annoying.
And just in case my current O/S is V4.3.0.67. I did at one stage try to upgrade and it made things worse so I went back to this version which generally works ok apart from this loss of memory.
Of I could be guaranteed to be able to reconnect to the BES everytime then I would upgrade more often.

No, this can't be put on to an 8100. Only 8100 OS can be loaded to an 8100.

Hi,
this is my first post...
I'm using a BB 8120 brand TIM (italian operator)..
Its firmware is v.4.3.0.99 and so I'm downloading the v.4.3.0.178 but from Orange UK...
The question is.. can it be used on my italian BB? And.. it's multilanguage so... does it contain italian language too?
Thanks in advance for your help and for your answers!

Yes, this can be used on any 8120. If it says "multilanguage" then it should contain Italian.

Has anyone using the 8120 with this OS noticed that icons of 3rd party programs come out looking all messed up? They look kind of blurry like the resolution is off or something. Not sure if this is true of other versions of 4.3 for the 8120 or not, since I just got this BB today and immediately loaded the version from this thread.

I searched the whole forum for "8120 Icons", and it only returned 5 threads, none of which have any mention of this issue. Hopefully its just a setting on the BlackBerry that can be changed.

I'm using this OS, the only 3rd party icon that I've noticed seems a bit off is the Pocket Express icon - it's slightly pixelated on one side of the icon - but I'm thinking this is more to do with the theme I'm using than the OS. If I switch the theme, the icon shows up ok.

No, we'll have to wait for v.4.5 for that.

4.5 is the next big update I suppose? Is there any ETA? Will it support the BB 8120 or is it only for new devices?
