Angry 7290 Low volume is killing me!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Is there any way to beef up the appallingly low volume my 7290 can generate?
Both my wife and I are complaining - so it's not just my BB.

Will I have to resort to buying a Bluetooth headset just to hear my phone caller?

AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh............ ....

It's a bit*h, isn't it. The best unit in the world, IMHO, and yet RIM can't get its shit together on the simplest of technologies -- sound volume. I hate the sound volume on my 7290. Why have a sound volume control at all when there's no need for one given the abysmally low-volume of the unit at full-crank. BT doesn't help much at all. I was hoping the 4.0 OS would provide a fix, but no dice. The only solution I've found is to carry along my trusty old-technology Star-Tac for phone use, with its great sound, and limit my 7290 (Cingular) to emails.

What a bit*h!

Umm, I think he meant the handset volume. You know, trying to hear the person on the other end of the line?

Just as an FYI the 7290 units that I have trought T-Mo do not have a volume issue. They have better volume then the 6230 units. The only complaint I have is that I can never seem to get the bulky BB lined up directly over my ear......

Default The only way to cope...

...in my opinion is to buy a decent (and small) bluetooth headset and get that sound pumped straight into the ear canal.
Most of the reviews I read in the Bluetooth forum all mentioned there was a drop in volume using a BT headset but I contacted a fellow forum member (can't remember who but do a search on HeadOffice and headset and you should find it).
He recommended the Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset and I went for it. He also recommended going to www.cellphonemall.net and phoning them (as the headset doesn't appear on-line). Enter extension 221 and ask for John - tell him some forum members recommended it and said he'd give a good price. I got it for $70 including shipping.

Works like a charm - is small and most importantly has enough volume. I still run it on full volume but it's a lot better than just using the BB.

Interestingly - in the U.K. earlier this month my BB roaming onto the Orange and Vodafone networks had plenty of volume - no headset required.

I had a Motorola MPx220 I don't know if you guys know that particular smartphone or not, but the volume on that phone really really really blew chunks! When I had the volume at a level that I could hear, the speaker would get all distorted! I always had to turn the phone onto speakerphone and turn the volume down just to hear people!

When I switched to the 7290 the FIRST thing I noticed was the superb sound quality whilst compared with my MPx220! Yes, true I have to have the volume at full-tilt without a headset on, but at the very least, I can hear what the other person is saying.

Now to tell the truth, I've never really ever seen a cell phone that I didn't need to have the volume all the way up to hear well. It's not that I'm deaf! I've always figured that the speakers that are in these phones are so small, even compared to a great many other things, that they simply could never push enough air to produce the volume desired and keep the battery life in-check!

I've used Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Ericsson, Samsung, LG, and Qualcom! EVERY phone had to have the volume at full-tilt! On the other-hand my iPod's volume barely ever gets past halfway!

I agree. I cannot hear the ringer very well and would very much like that fixed or find out what th app is that will allow it be louder. My only concern is this, "Will the 3rd party ruin the speaker if there is such an app?" Thanks in advance to anyone who knows of a fix. It is quite frustrating.

I did and it was about the same to me. Thank you, though. I am still very disappointed. I don't know what I am going to do.
