Default Redirector to BES

Please Login to Remove!

I recently upgraded to a BB 7250. I am still in the 15 day trial with my provider, so I decided not to pursue addition to the corporate BES. Instead, I am running Redirector on my PC (which stays on anyway). I understand that Redirector only allows you to send/receive emails (no reconciliation). I also sync via USB cable with my Outlook calendar, contacts, tasks, etc.

I have decided to keep the device and am going to ask to be added to the corporate BES. What do I need to do to replace the Redirector with the BES? What do I have to do with my desktop PC and the handheld to transition to the BES and away from Redirector?

Also, what will happen with all my contacts, calendar entries, etc., when I do get on the BES? Should I wipe them clean before activating (if so.. how? sorry)

Thanks

All you need to do is delete all Desktop[] service books on the device by going to Options | Service Book after that make sure that you're setup on the BES And run the Enterprise Activation.

If everything runs as smooth as it should;
Once you have been added to the BES, the status field in the Redirector should generally change to {ServerName}xxxxxxxxx
(where xxxxxxxxx = 'Initializing', 'Running' 'No PIN' or 'Disabled......')
With an online connection to your Mail Server and Desktop Manager open, connect the device and you should be prompted to generate a new encryption key.
That's all.

Of course, it can be a good idea to wipe the handheld and use the Enterprise Activation, once the BESadmin supplies you with an activation password.
[the wipe helps to ensure a clean device ready to accept the new info]

Uninstall and reinstall desktop manager as BES not Redirector, fairly important.

So, it sounds like I should do the following in order:

1. Uninstall Desktop software and re-install choosing BES instead of Redirector.
2. Delete all Desktop service books on the BB (currently I have CICAL & CIMIME).
3. Wiping the handheld is recommended (how do I do this? - I assume it will just remove all of my current calendar entries, tasks, contacts, etc.)
4. Use Enterprise Activation to enter the password
5. Connect the handheld to the desktop which will require a new key to be generated.

Is this correct?

Thanks for all your help.

IMPORTANT: Ring your provider and ask whether your handheld is provisioned for 'Enterprise', not 'Prosumer'.

If you can, go to settings/security/scrollwheel/wipe handheld

Add user and set activation password

On device, go into enterprise activation. Enter email and activation password and click scrollwheel/activate.

Pray (this is the most important part )
