Default GPs cycling Software & tracking

Please Login to Remove!

I have yet to purchase the phone. it is down to iphone , BB Bold or BB Storm (is it true that storm has no wifi).
What I'm looking for is gps software that will act as a cyclometer, giving me distance time Av. speed & tracks my course so I can download it on to my home computer.
Also want to be able to have my wife track me as I ride, from our home computer (I know that could be a dangerous thing to show her).

I do quite a bit of geocaching as well so any software advice would be appreciated.

I really don't want to have to pay monthly or yearly for the software, I don't mind paying for software.

Just went to say
Thankyou for all your time & help.

GPSLogger provides some of those features. It can export your track to GoogleEarth or gpx/garmin formats. It also provides its own display of stats. Here's yesterday's bike ride:

This looks good. How do you export the track to Google maps (or google earth)?

The program allows you to export the tracks in KML or GPX format for Google Earth. I think GE allows you to open the track in Google Maps. The export is either to the microSD card or via email to yourself.

Sorry to be so dense, however, can you give me instructions on how to get this type of map. I have gotten the track to convert to a GPX format, can import it to Google Earth, however cannot get it to display in this type of nice simple map format. Thank you in advance.

have not been able to activate the GPS but can manually upload the kml files generated by GPSLogger to program called SportyPal. Is able to store the tracks and analyze them for you. Using BB Tour, Verizon network, and running os 5.0.0.231

I use GPSLogger (mostly for running, but also for a small amount of cycling), it works very well, is very customizable, and is free. It meets all the requirements you listed except for real time tracking from a pc.

A while ago I tried SportyPal, but was never able to get the GPS to initialize with it. BUT that said, I think it would work now, since I upgraded the OS on my Tour to .57 (I had issues with GPS on some programs when I was using .40, but now with .57 all my GPS apps work fine). SportyPal is free.

I just tried out RoadRunnerGPS for the first time this morning on a run... It seems to work pretty well, except for that I set up alerts to chime every mile, and when RoadRunner chimes it pauses Slacker so I have to pull my berry out of the armband and re-start Slacker. (I have GPSLogger set to chime every mile also, and it doesn't affect Slacker at all.) There is a one-time charge for RoadRunner, but there is a 30 day trial.

For geocaching, I think GPSLogger has this functionality (I have never gone geocaching so I can't comment on its usefulness in this regard). Also, Blackstar is a free geocaching app.

Of the phones you mentioned, all have wifi (well, the Storm2 has wifi).

hth!

P.S.- Oh yeah, get a BB!!

edit- I just realized the date on his original post... I wonder what phone he got...

You need to start a new thread for that. But generally no, unless you installed something that reports a position to a service. It will also stop doing it if you cancelled the phone with the telco already. No service == no updates.

Allsport GPS from Trimble Outdoors is a great app for Blackberry. Just started using it and it works great. You can download a 7 day free trial from Blackberry App World and then pay the subscription if you want to keep using it (costs £13.99 in the UK).
