Anyone got a storm working on GSM 3G in the USA?
Please Login to Remove!
I really like this phone, i think the bold is a POS, just too big for what it is, love my pearl, but its lacking on certain things.
The storm is lacking WIFI but I can live without that, can't live without 3G. So has anyone got it working on ATT?

My understanding is that neither the 9500 nor the 9530 support US 3G bands and EDGE is the best it will pick up.

There is no hope for the 9530 running on North American GSM 3G. I can confirm that.
9500, not so sure.

I have an unlocked 9500 on AT&T and I can confirm no 3G.

The second 3G network operator in the USA was Verizon Wireless (since October 2003) also on CDMA2000 1x EV-DO, and this network has grown strongly since then.
What about 1xEV = 3G don't you understand?
Whereas the Storm support Network Technologies of GFM/UMTS, 1xDV, and "Global", the recommended setting is 1xEV (G3).

The OP was looking to use a Storm on AT&T (or some GSM carrier)... so your vast knowledge of 1xEV is pretty much a moot point, isn't it?
AT&T = GSM, and 1xEV doesn't apply. What about that don't you understand?

I guess that's the chance you take using a Verizon phone on another carrier's network.

Not with the 9500 or 9530. Look to mid next year.

Enjoy the iPhone then. VZWs Storm will not work on the GSM 3G, different bands.
Bold a POS? Thats laughable, it is an amazing device, may not be everyones favorite but a POS is a stretch.

Hopefully its not a "chance" anyone took. I seriously hope any buyers knew in advance that there was no AT&T 3G on the Storm, no how, no way.

Why I can't send/receive data while on a voice call on an EvDO network?
While Verizon employed CPOP (and 'data-waiting upon voice call'), they failed to implement simultaneous voice and data sessions.
I consider this to be a critical feature of 3rd Generation (is that what it stands for?) networks...

I saw the storm today, awesome little phone. I don't like the typing that great, but it should play nice videos.
Too bad I can't buy one cuz it can't do 3G on ATT. I don't know what blackberry is thinking, they seriously think I'm gonna buy a bold?? Thats laughable, the thing is bigger than my 5lb dog and the screen still isn't big enough to watch movies. I'm a guy, the bold ain't fitting in my pocket.
Anyone know when the storm might be out for 3G on ATT? someone said mid 2009?

My understand was that the topic was about the storm working on ATT's 3G network, not about why you dislike the Blackberry Bold. Stop knocking a perfectly exquisite device because it does not suit what you are looking for. You want a phone on ATT that can play videos on a full screen, get an iPhone, or better yet, go by an iPod Touch, but don't sit here and knock the Bold. IMO, the Blackberry Bold surpasses the Storm by leaps and bounds.

I think the Bold is a great phone if you can live with ATT's network. I much prefer Verizon here in Southern Arizona.

hmm, my understanding is you don't know internet etiquette meaning you don't hijack someone elses thread, further, this is America and if I don't like the Bold, thats my opinion, and frankly no one asked for yours. This isn't a Bold vs. Storm thread.
