Hi
I'm new to blackberry so please excuse my ignorance. I have an 8700 and have a couple of issues. Firstly, the pdf software that came with the blackberry doesn't seem to be able to read pdf's very well at all. Is there another pdf reader that you can recommend that works well, or maybe there is a setting in need to change??
Also, i want to get 'my number' displayed on the phone, but although i have this setting set to on it says number unknown. Any ideas??
when you are speaking of displaying your number, do you mean on the Standby Screen (appears when phone is locked) or on the Phone Screen (when you enter into Phone Mode)?
I know that the Standby Screen's information can be pulled from the Owner Information you find in the Settings Menu (Owner). As for the display on the phone screen, once you enter into Phone mode, click the trackwheel and scroll to Options, General Options, and make sure 'My Number' is set to 'Yes'. If this doesn't work, hopefully someone else will give you an answer quickly or you can call your carrier.
What you may need to do is program the number on the SIM card. Try this:
1. Use the trackwheel to click on the Settings icon.
2. Use the trackwheel to click on the Options icon.
3. Click on Advanced options.
4. Click on SIM Card.
5. Click the trackwheel to bring up the menu, select Edit SIM Phone Number from the menu.
6. In the next window, enter your BlackBerry's phone number, and click the trackwheel when you are finished.
7. Hit the escape button, and keep hitting it until you are back at the home screen.
8. Power off the unit, then power it back on.
9. Your phone number should now be displayed in the My Number field.
PLEASE NOTE: These instructions will work on the T-Mobile and Cingular devices. If you have a device from a different provider, or do not see the same settings in the above instructions, I would recommend calling your vendor's tech support number.
thanks for your help bigjohn, but unfortunately I'm with Vodafone and the option isn't there once you get to sim card options. Oh well, i'll try the illusive guy from Vodafone.
