If you have a Blackberry Data plan it uses data and will not cost you. Your "ID" can be found by Menu>options>Status. It is the PIN number.

Since I am new to BB, just what exactly is BB messenger for. Is it just for BB's only, or can I messenger AIM.

BBMessenger is for blackberry-to-blackberry messaging only via PIN.

Just to add to this, I would recommend an unlimited data plan. The messenger doesn't use much data, however if you would go over you limit, it could cost you.

It's a nice feature IMO. It's like IM for BBs only and you can send pix like MMS (but I can't save them). It's fast too and you can have more than one conversation going.

I agree, but I don't use it often since I hardly know anyone else who has a BlackBerry. I bought my Pearl for personal use and just because I'm a hardcore nerd and wanted a "nerd phone" that could eat anyone elses flip phone.
