Mine moves a slight bit side to side. I have had two Torches -- both moved slightly side to side. One torch was a little less solid and had some up and down movement when pushed.

The movement doesn't seem to be a defect -rather just a side affect of the design.

Probably because the slider is loose or has minor imperfections. I've owned many BlackBerry devices and several of them have had these types of quirks. If it wasn't a slider issue it was a flapping battery door that had to be propped up with a business card.

My Bold 9700 had a chip on the track pad area. It was I think something others reported as well. The 8700 had a battery door where some users (including me) had to stick a folded business card on top of the battery or it squeaked like crazy.

The slider will naturally have some play in especially as you use it. Wouldn't write it off as poor quality or workmanship. And you can't compare it to other devices as they aren't sliders.

I have had similar smartphones with a slide out or flip out keypads (HTC especially) and they also had a little play in the slide mechanism.
