I understand that ripping my BB open would certainly void my warranty, but I would love to get it painted when im painting some things for my car, I want to paint it Sunset Orange Mica, then clear coat it, I still want the professional look, but with a design touch to it.. How do you guys think that will look?

That color is awesome! Flashy, and yet still classy ;). My advice, primer it first before you paint it, and no doubt clear coat it. It'll look like a car in the palm of your hand! I painted past phones (haven't done my BB yet), process was easy, primer, paint (I used an acrylic paint, as latex will peel instead of chip), then let it dry, another coat of paint, dry and 2 coats of clear coating. IT never chipped more then it normally would have if it was OEM painted. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

Well, my plan was giving my painter the plastic part of the BB when im getting other stuff painted, meaning it will be professionally painted.

Make sure you have a Torx T-6 screwdriver so you can set aside the guts of the Blackberry and just paint the casing.

Must use several layers of really high quality spray paint (and then maybe probably some kind of protective varnish layer) to keep it looking professional!

Well, like I said earlier, its getting professionally painted with car paint, primered, painted several layers, and then two layers of clear coat. ;)

While it's possible to take a Blackberry apart using a regular set of Alan Wrenches -- I HIGHLY recomend getting hold of the correct tools before beginning the project. I've been forced to try both ways, and it's much easier when you have the right tools

I have plenty experience taking apart blackberries (950's, 957's etc.) I used to repair them as I had a contact at RIM that provided me with lcd's. I still have the proper tools as well

A couple of folks I know at RIM said they were going to make other colours of the Blackberries, the only problem was that they ended up putting out too much radiation :D

Thats weird, you would have thought that was easily fixable, whereas the crucial problem would be if the different casings impaired the rf signal too much.

Plus its will be clear coated, so wont be a problem.

I am supposed to drop the case off for a couple of hours this week.

I would love it if you were to write a little FAQ when you are done, I have the Nextel Blueberry and the holster did a poor job of holding on to the thing, now it is scratched.

My 7510 is completely scratched up. I should post a picture of it so you guys can check it out...its really sad. But luckily I cut out a custom screen protectant so the screen is untouched. I too would love to see what a custom painted case would look like.
