Default BlackBerry Social Feeds vs. BlackBerry News Feeds App

Please Login to Remove!

Can someone please explain the major difference between the OS6 Social Feeds RSS Reader and the BlackBerry News Feeds App? Maybe I'm dense, but it seems like they're both RSS Readers and do basically the same thing. It also seems like if this is the case, wouldn't it be easier to just release the Social Feeds App for all devices (instead of OS6 only), since it includes an RSS reader with it?

PS - This may be pushing it, but if anyone as seen a comparison chart between the 2 RSS reader apps, please forward that link. (I haven't seen anything via Google search).

Thanks!

i wondered about the same thing recently as I was trying to replace Viigo with something smaller.

The obvious difference is that social feeds only exists in OS 6 and news feeds is a separate app that can run on other OSes. They are similar but news feeds feels more like it came more from Viigo than social feeds (but not by much). It has options to import from Viigo and other app options that are similar to what you saw in Viigo.

One thing I'd like to see is an option to refresh individual feeds, not all at once. My phone doesn't have much free space and it's vital that I have this option.

Until then I think I'll keep Viigo for this one reason.

Default Re: BlackBerry Social Feeds vs. BlackBerry News Feeds App

I can't say that I have seen an actual comparison between the two, but in my opinion I like the Blackberry News Feeds a lot better than the Social Feeds or any other free RSS reader (and I have tried a lot of them).

So far the only thing I don't like about the News Feeds is that when integrated into my messages folder, it doesn't mark the items as read/deleted in the actual reader itself. So I still have to go into the reader to mark/delete items. Another thing is it only offers sound alerts without any kind of visual notification on the home screen. So I just keep it on my home screen, otherwise I forget about it and am left searching for a reason as to why my LED light is flashing. LOL

On the plus side, I can actually mark items as read and/or delete them altogether, which is not something Social Feeds will do. I can't be for certain, but I imagine that allowing the messages to pile up is taking up unnecessary memory just due to that fact alone.

In the end I opted to go with News Feeds and deleted the Social Feeds altogether as I found it rather useless myself. But after trying a number of RSS feed readers, the News Feeds is still by far the best one I have found that doesn't require you to pay for it.

Hope this helps
