Default Using Cingular 8800 in Europe

Please Login to Remove!

I have just received a Cingular 8800. This is my first smartphone and some of this is new to me. I will be traveling in Europe next month. I know I can change the card inside to a european carrier, but will my email still get through.

it all depends which SIM you are usng and which account it is registered to. If it is registered on the Cingular (as an example) you would have to have your Cingular SIM in there to be able to get your messages. One thing is that you need to make sure that you also have int'l roaming activiated on your account. Now if you use a local SIM, as you know the 8800 would need to be unlocked first and if you use it then all you can do with the BB is phone calls and SMS as the BB can only be registered to one account at a time.

This sounds more complicated than I first thought. I may just leave it at home and get a disposable when I arrive. Thanks for the help.

It is realy not complicated. If you want to use the BB overseas for email then just take it with you and use it for jsut that and use the local for your calls. I have done that my slef and the cost for just using emails to read, send and respond did not come out to much cost for data roaming. I did that for one month and the cost was barely $12 ( one thing is that I did not open attachments and left that to be done on my PC)

Wirelessly posted (blackberry 8700c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

With cingular you can get the interntation plan which isn't that much more. What I am unsure is what happens when you get calls from home or text? How much will those cost? Say people don't know your overseas and they still call and text.

i figured that, wish there was a way to turn over certain parts of your wireless. for example turn off voice and sms, but receive pins and emails.

How do you turn off VM and SMS other than turning off your phone?

Actualy one can have BB plan int'l roaming with out having voice roaming and if one does that then there is no need for turning off the voice mail or SMS. But if one wants to turn the 2 off, one needs to call CS and ask them to shut the 2 off and once one returns then one can re-activate.

I just noticed on the blackberry 8800 i can set call forwarding unconditional. Does this mean i can roam internationally without getting hit with a 2$ charge for every call forwareded to my cellphone (Even if i dont pick up) and another 2$ charge for it to be forwarded to voicemail. I just want to be able to use data without the exorbant fees associated with voice
