Default 8900 build quality...creaky keys and loose trackball

Please Login to Remove!

Any way to fix the creaky menu and end keys? Sometimes the trackball, send call and end call keys are creaky as well. Not a major issue, but a little annoying.

The trackball on my 8900 is pretty mushy and loose compared to the trackballs on my previous two devices (Pearl 8100 and 8110). For the trackball to be fully functional, I usually lightly apply pressure or feather it. Sometimes I have to apply more pressure for it to work properly. It's not consistent, especially the side to side scrolling. Hopefully I explained the "issue" properly. The horizontal and vertical sensitivity is set at 80 and audible roll set at mute. When I increase the sensitivity to 90 and also to 100, it's a little better. I also blow the trackball out with air once in a while to clean it out. Is this by design or do I have a reject? Or am I being picky?

I love everything about the 8900 except for the shobby build quality.

I don't know that there's a "fix" to those issues. Sometimes I find certain keystrokes are a bit "creaky" as you describe - on my 8900 I think they're related to the battery door rather than the keys themselves. The trackball does seem a little loose compared to other BB trackballs, but this seem inherent in the design. Mine - though loose - scrolls perfectly, and though a little harder to press compared to some others (likely the result of no plastic "divot" around the trackball) it is fully functional.

Whenever I get critical of the build quality of the 8900 I look at the near perfect form factor, the faster processor and more memory compared to other BBs, marvel at the excellent call quality of mine, the high-res screen, the fact that it runs virtually bug-free, and feel good about having it.

I totally agree with you your last statement!!! I either have to stop thinking about the build quality, exchange it or get an iPhone. Trust me, an iPhone is in the back of my head.

My keypad and my back door are loose, the keypad bothers me it moves when I type. I might use my 8320, it's solid!

Exchange it. Simple as that. We have loads of 8900s with no build complaints.

That's why I'll probably do unless I go the iPhone route

Do I wipe the phone clean and then bring it in the corp store for exchange?
