this is a general questions as many users has asked me but i don't know the answer. those little icons in the call log, the ones that tell you if the entry is a missed call, a call you made, or a call that came into your BB. If those icons disappear how do you get them back?

I think they differ with themes and how you have call logs recorded.

Go to the Phone app (push green phone button) and then hit menu and go to Options >General Options >Phone list view "Call Log."
