Exclamation Disappearing SMS/MMS and Call log entries

Please Login to Remove!

Every few days my SMS and Call Log entries keep disappearing from my curve. I have to pull the battery in order to have my sms and call log save more than one enrty at a time. In other forums they are saying a possible memory leak the same thing that happend tothe pearl. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it?

The other forums are correct. Delete things you don't need. Sounds like a memory issue, as those are usually the first to go.

The curve is my first BB, and I've had it for about 2 weeks. The disappearing call log thing started yesterday.

I guess you have to manage the memory carefully on this thing if you don't want to lose phone numbers and messages. How much memory do I need to keep free? I have only loaded two apps. (google maps, olive tree bible reader with one bible) What programs can I keep open without using too much memory? Can I move the bible to the micro SD card? If so, how?

Right now I have 23616033 bytes.

I'm having the same issue with the memory leak, i'm losing all my call logs and sms messages. I have had the curve for about a month and this just started a few days ago.

I just deleted telenav maps (711 Kb) which is preloaded on the device so hopefully this resolves the issue. I still have google services, Viigo, and empower loaded on the device. Has anyone else been able to resolve this issue?

Here is a RIM article on SMS and call logs disappearing. A couple of my 8100 blackberry users were seeing this issue.

So Ive been having the same problem with my curve as well. I went to the desktop manager> application loader> and when loaded it says "The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator."
I was trying to take some preloaded apps off my phone that i didnt use.

Can anyone help to address this issue?

Just want to confirm...bc I have been having this call log/SMS issue and it is extremely annoying. If i have a missed call and I don't check the log immediately, I dont even know who it was.

So basically - this is not a device to device basis? It is based on too much memory being used? Returning for another device will not change this(want to make sure I can return within timeline)?

I only have a few pictures that I took and no 3rd party apps. It doesnt seem like there is that much memory being taken up. In fact, Im not great with these things but I would happy to let you know how much memory is being taken up with some advice as to how to find that.

Thanks in advance for any help as this is a huge inconvenience that I was not having on the 8700.

Its must be a fault because i have almost 5900 emails, 4000 sms and 6 months worth of call history on my fone (Every call since i switched the device on) although once i did wake up to all my emails deleted... frustrating!! The reason Ixxx8217;m on here now is because a friend of mine is having the same problem as u guys, sms and call logs keep disappearing.. Do u think this is a fault or could it be a setting somewhere??

This has to be a defect in the OS.... I have a ton of free memory and it just randomly happens (twice in the last day!). This is extremely frustrating and I hope there is a software patch coming soon. I lost over 50 emails due to this issue in addition to the call logs and SMS threads.

It looks like this has been isolated to the Curve and Pearl....OS 4.3 problem??

Would you mind telling us what a "ton" is?

12MB of free memory is about the lower limit. After that you're subject to disappearing call logs and messages. ALT + Shift + H will bring up an info screen that will tell you how much free memory you currently have. A battery pull will reboot your Blackberry and take you back to max free memory. On my Curve I have about 20MB free. When it gets below 17 MB I yank the battery for a few seconds.

Does the free soft reset program work as well as a battery pull for these kinds of issues?

There is no hard "cutoff". It's a guess-timate. Seems to be about the point where most folks see the problem start cropping up, but it's anecdotal evidence.

If you have 25MB free and stuff is disappearing you might have your Blackberry set to delete old mail after a set period of time. Also, don't forget that you could start out with 25MB free and by leaving too many programs running in the background, drop to a low free memory level rather quickly.

Default memory card?

I have put everything-- pictures, ringtones, you name it-- on my memory card. I had the same problem and that solved it instantly! I also deleted stuff I didn't need.

E-mails, web browsing and all that stuff does take up memory... battery pulls help but sometimes not enough.

I found the problem was worse on the Curve than the Pearl, which is why I invested in a 2GB memory card right away.

The battery pull seems to be an easy way to unallocate memory. After a fruitless search for deletable files, I pulled the battery and immediately got 20mb free space.

What if I have a 4G media card, is there any way to install the apps on that card or set the device to use the media card for emails and call logs so they don't get purged due to lack of memory?
