Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

Keep in mind that the settings on the browser can be changed to look like a different browser. That may indeed just be the WAP browser or settings have not been set properly.

Could that be a new reader? Tough to tell from that one pic.

Well the answer is that they're looking at Engadget's mobile site...
http://m.engadget.com/

That's not exactly looking at Engadget.

Sigh. There should be a test you have to take before you're allowed to blog. The misinformation out there is stunning.

It's the engadget mobile site and you get sent to the page in the BB browser using www.engadget.com. Unless it's supposed to look radically different than that, I have no idea what the point of the article was. I would venture a guess that Engadget looks at the user agent and sends you to the wap site. The page looks pretty much the same on the 8320. The bottom of the page has a link to the actual full site and takes you there when you click on it.

I'm still skeptical of this new browser they are touting that is supposed to give a desktop like experience. I'm expecting the same old crappy browser with tabs and maybe a different option at zooming. I'm not expecting much.

Why would Engadget spotlight a WAP sight on a major "sneak peek" that seems like it was at some sort of orchestrated event (Gizmodo also has a video that pretty much breezes by a quick demo of the browser)

Remember, this demo came out on a day when a delay in the Bold was announced (though apparently not acknowledged by AT&T) and the earnings / subscriber targets slightly disappointed expectations.

I think it's reasonable to expect that the Bold would be shown with it's best foot forward.

My prior 8320 would latch onto these wap type sites when I browsed WordPress based sites like Engadget and Geardiary.

I'm the author of this -- and I'd love to be proven wrong on this browser.

So far I'm nervous because Crackberry bought one off eBay and said the browser wasn't changed. And there just haven't been any type of demos that spotlight the browser.

Yeah I think the browser is going to be a big deal even though this is a business device.

Blackberry Bold: BlackBerry Bold Hands On (It's Great)

Gizmodo does a video review and it looks great. The video player is wonderful, great multimedia support. Browser? Hard to tell.

Thanks for the post. I think the Bold looks awesome and I agree with the guy in the video, when he said its going to be a tough choice between this and the iPhone.

Doesn't seem like any of the press got to spend a significant amount of time with the device... a few photos, and a few minutes to play around.

You'll note each site focused on different things... Engadget focused on raw functionality, Gizmodo played around with multimedia, etc. Engadget auto detects and punts users to a mobile version if they detect a mobile device. Looks like all Engadget did was buzz their own site, take a photo, and run.

Gizmodo did mention specifically that the Bold was capable of rendering their website without issue. I know it renders horribly on my Windows Mobile devices... and the 8320 doesn't do so hot either. If they thought it was better (can't really tell from the video), I'd say the browser is perfectly fine.

Looks like Phonescoop has the best set of photos of the browser - I added the link to them at the end of my write-up. I haven't been in front of a computer much today so I don't know how recent the browser photos are.

Here's the link to some better browser pics:

Interesting. I would like to see a clean and steady video of the browser in mobile and full mode.
