I am dumping VZW but I don't know where to go now.

I've had with their practice of disabling features, I AM OUT! I am going to move up from the 8703 to an 88XX series. Will you please tell me about positive experiences with your N American providers?

Makes no difference what we have. We don't live wherever you do and we don't go where you go. You need to find a carrier that has the coverage when and where you need it - where you live, work, travel and play. Don't trust the coverage maps either. Talk to family, friends, co-workers and see which one they have and how they like it.
Verizon and ATT are the best as far as coverage is concerned, followed by Sprint and T-mobile. Do the research and make an informed decision. You may find out Verizon is the best carrier for you.

Sure it does, most of us that have/need these are business professionals as I am and travel world wide so it surely is applicable.

HUH?
We have no clue where you will use the device nor where you travel. If you don't want to use my advice then disregard it, but don't complain about it later. No one device works everywhere in the world.

Choosing a carrier is ALL about coverage. If you're in Northern New Jersey or NYC, then Verizon is king of coverage. AT&T and T-Mobile are both very good, and in larger cities or any metropolitan area you should see almost no difference in coverage.
I prefer GSM phones because it's so easy to buy a pre-paid SIM card locally while traveling in Europe. No good with Blackberrys because of the lack of pre-paid SIM cards that include data. I usually just take a Nokia for that, like the E61i.

I want to know how your CSR experiences have been, I want to know how your carrier served you when you damaged/lost your phone, I want to know about the clarity in your sound and if you have had a good experience when it came to use of bis through their connection. There is alot more to a carrier than coverage. Sure coverage is important but the other points of service are equally important.

Verizon works great for me as for as coverage. The customer service has been great. It simpy works, but then I have not lost or damaged my 8830. Those sound like user problems and not customer service.

customer service unfortunately varies greatly from rep to rep. The main carriers are "Usually" good about it. I havent had much experience with regional carriers so i cant tell based on that. Coverage wise in major cities any major carrier will be pretty good. outside of that, and major highways, Verizon/Sprint have almost the same coverage area, and ATT has its own. Nextel Portion of Sprint and Tmobile dont have that large a coverage area

verizon coverage and CSR is best in Atlanta. I wouldnt go with sprint since they are closing over 125 stores and cutting 6000 jobs.

I did the research and went with the company formerly called Cingular because of their superiou coverage in all the countries to which I am required to travel (some Europe but mostly South America). (I switched from Verizon.) Others in the office with BB's who don't travel where I do are quite happy with Verizon as their carrier. We have one guy with T-Mobile and he thinks it is the cats meow.
I would never brag on how Cingular treated me as a customer with one exception. Their 1-916 xxx xxxx toll free BB help line has baled me out of several situations when crap happened while I was out of the country. (Seems someone always wants to monkey with the server or our Broad band access lines when I am traveling). They are the best.
You have to do the research based on where you anticipate using the phone. But then again, I think I repeat what dubdub said above.

I am possibly switching to Cingular also, but due to work. Can anyone comment on coverage in South Jersey.

I have accounts with Sprint, Tmo and ATT. Sprint has been my primary carrier for 5 years now. I am in western suburbs outside of Chicago and travel heavily between Los Angeles, Washington DC and Florida. In all of those locations, Sprint is excellent, in fact I have never been anywhere in the U.S. in the last few years where I didn't have good coverage, however, I am rarely very far outside of major metro areas. In my office in Chicago, which is in the basement of my home, Sprint gets enough of a signal to have a decent conversation, Tmo a step below that (i.e. it would work but with static) and ATT can't even get a signal at my desk (the "SOS" is what it shows). Customer service wise, I personally have never had any issues with Sprint but there are many people who have had horrible problems with Sprint (keeping in mind I have a business account so I am always talking to the premier reps). Tmo's customer service reps are by FAR the most friendly and cooperative in my dealings with them. ATT I would rank just behind. Overall, in the areas I frequent Sprint's reception is noticeably clearer then the gsm carriers which is why I use them as primary, well that and the fact that Sprint's data network is very fast and reasonably priced.
