Based on my reading of the document published by RIM titled: "Security for BlackBerry Devices with Bluetooth Wireless Technology," my guess is no. The serial profile that is enabled is severly restricted in order to meet RIM's security concerns.

I had bought a new Linksys Bluetooth adapter, installed the software, and while it was recognized by it's own Linksys software, it killed the MSOFT stack (as mentioned previously.

I'm on a BES, so the first thing I had to do is work with tech support to make sur e the btooth policies were set correctly and updated on my 8700. Once that was done, I wiped my desktop and reinstalled the OS (happens to be WinXP Media Center in this case) and LEFT the btooth adapter in the pc during install. This installed the MSOFT stack.

Once all this was done, I added the 8700 to btooth using the control panel applet. Worked fine. I then installed the bberry desktop software 4.1 and went through the btooth configuration - worked like a charm. Funny thing I found out was that I had a JABRA 500 headset connected - the 8700 support only one btooth connection at a time. Once I killed the headset connection the 8700 accepted the request from the desktop software to connect and we were off and running.

So - uninstall the OEM drivers for your adapter - reboot with the adapter in the PC - let the MSOFT stack install. You should have no problems.

I can get them to pair but I can't get it to recognize the services that it should. For instance, I can't use the bluetooth as an alternative to the USB cable for tethered modem capability, but I can get it to recognize it for speaker and mic support. So, I can answer the calls through my laptop and use my laptop as a speakerphone basically. Which, is sort of useless.

Demodave - The MSOFT stack is only available on machines running WinXP SP2. I'm running Win2k SP4, and I'm not going to change OS's just to get this to work.

I spent the better part of a day trying to get Bluetooth sync to work and finally succeeded. I have an 8700c and a Dell Latitude 600 running XP. I initially could get the devices paired but could not get Desktop Manager to recognize the connection. I found step-by-step instructions in the RIM Knowledge Base and followed them EXACTLY. After doing so, SUCCESS. I determined I was setting up a Bluetooth Service (Audio Gateway) rather than a Bluetooth Device.

I am able to sync via bluetooth on two systems. One is a Thinkpad w/ built-in Bluetooth. The other is a Dell, but using a Zoom Bluetooth USB dongle. Both work just fine and use the Microsoft stack.

I have the same problem as sfmays. I was able to get bluetooth sync working, but for some reason now it decided to stop working. Everything says it's connected, except my 8700 keeps trying to connect to the desktop and won't. Tried removing the pairing and starting over, but no luck.

I have the same problem i.e. the BT check box is deactivated. This is apparently due to an incompatible BT adapter (Widcomm).

It sounds like you have an IT policy set that disables Bluetooth. To see how to remove do a search on the forum. There is a link to a web site with instructions.

My company is on BES 3.8. I bet it doesn't have the ability to enable or disable this feature. To bad the default couldn't be on.

What doesn't make sense, the setting that is dulled out is on my PC. How can a policy on my BB cause a setting to dull out on my PC? I also removed the policy which meant wiping my BB but the setting still stayed grayed out.

@Stinsonddog = what is that link to the KBB? Yours does not seem to work. What did you search for?

If you have an account on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, it must be running software version 4.0 Service Pack 3 or later and the following IT policies must be set to FALSE (by the system administrator):
Disable Desktop Connectivity
Disable Wireless Bypass

OK. I have read the entire thread and still cannot get BB Device Mgr to find my device. I have MS XP SP2 BT Mgr and am successfully paired. Is there a way to get past not having BES and to change the IT Policy that seems to be in the way?

Well, after reading this thread, I uninstalled my WIDCOMM stuff, but the MS drivers won't install. It can't find them. This is on a Compaq N620c, SP2, Kensington 33348 BT dongle.

Any ideas?

We are running BES v 3.6. Does anyone know how to fix the IT policy issue in 3.6?

For some reason I'm able to pair with my desktop at home but it will not sync with the desktop computer whihc renders the bluetooth connection useless. Anyone know how to force it to connect to intellisync. This is getting very frustrating. BTW, I don't use BES, I'm BIS. Thanks in advance, but I'm puling my hair out at this point.

ok, well this is what i personally can confirm.

devices:
x31 thinkpad
8700c
belkin cf bluetooth adapter
microsoft usb bluetooth adapter from a mouse

the thinkpad + the belkin bt adapter will not work for me. it runs on their drivers not the ms stack. i can connect but i CAN NOT check the box to sync thru bluetooth.

so i plugged in the microsoft bt adapter and it worked perfectly. synced and all.
... then my laptop kept trying to connect to the blackberry untill i shut down the desktop manager.

but it worked!

After much searching, it seems that the Kensington 33348 bluetooth dongle is just not compatible with the Microsoft drivers. Its PnP ID is not in the list of compatible dongles.

Does anyone have a list of dongles that ARE compatible with the WinXP Bluetooth drivers?
