Default Watching Films/DVD on Bold??

Please Login to Remove!

Hey - I am wondering what is the best way to convert DVD's to the best quality compatible file format to watch fims in Hi-Res on my Bold? - Any suggestions?? What software is everyone using??

Also do we know the MAX Micro-SD card that the BOLD works with - is it 16GB?

Yesterday we ripped some DVDs with good ol faithful DVDShrink 3.2.0.15 and then converted them using AutoGK. All Freeware, all old, but work great. We used 320 horizontal lines as our target resoultion and Audio was encoded as MP3 128kbps.

IronMan and the Incredible Hulk look and sound great.

AutoGK includes and uses Xvid MPEG-4 and creates an .AVI file. File sizes end up between 350mb-550mb using about 75% compression.

On a single Core, Hyper-Threaded Intel 3.2ghz CPU it takes about an hour and half to create the file from ripped DVD.

AutoGK I think has been abandoned as a project as the latest build is 2.48 beta from maybe 2003. But it works great. I am sure there are newer, better tools out there, but this one works well, easy and free.

I use Handbrake to rip DVDs to the phone, work quite well. One app, one button click, it tends to take about 50% of the play time to rip them.

I'm using this, Nidesoft DVD Ripper and it has been working great. I opted for the ripper / converter suite myself. I was having a little issue with the snapshot button, but there support team was really responsive and we worked together to get it fixed. Turns out it was a vista compatibility issue.

The options and ability the software offers to use multiple devices are pretty good.

For now I am using the .MP4 for Blackberry from their drop down and changing the screen format to 480 x 320. It rips pretty quickly, with my estimated time at about 30 minutes for a full length 90 minute or so movie. I usually set it up, walk away do something else while it's ripping.

Also after playing around I have come to these settings that suit me for viewing, sound quality and good compression:

- BlackBerry MPEG-4 video
- 480 x 320 resolution

TV Show DVD's:

- 256 video bitrate
- 32 audio bitrate

Movie DVD's:

- 384 video bitrate
- 32 audio bitrate

Music Video / Concert DVD's:

- 512 video bitrate
- 128 audio bitrate

You can also crop, trim, enhance the volume, adjust the color and so on via the menus.

I don't think the Bold is a very good video playback device for full movie (and or clips for that matter).

Speed Racer on my 9000 lags in several places and always "Hangs" near the end for a coupla seconds then starts again as the audio catches up.

I'm experimenting with several encoders now and have yet to playback a movie that doesn't have the audio out of sync with the video. I have been using H.264 to encode with so perhaps the Bold doest support this compression very well.

The device will reboot itself when trying to navigate (using the slider to go forward or backwards).

Hi everyone...

I have not seen any skips in the demos or the mp4's I am converting. I did see one day where I menu'd a new video and the device rebooted. Other than that, it has been very good with the HD TV files and films I have converted. I have not however tried a movie yet. The fast forward seems to be working ok also...
I am using Xvid4PSP software to convert to 480x360.

H.

I used DVDfab 5 and the video and audio are perfect, my only question is how do we get it to be the same hi-res quality as the Speed Racer Demo?

I use Pocket-DVD Studio and covert to a HIGH quality video first(AVI). Than I use JODIX free ipod video converter to mp4 and the results are GREAT.

I watch the movies with BLUETOOTH on the bold and the movie syncs really good with the audio. I'm trying to find a ONE STEP solotion but have not had the results as with my 2 steps!

I'm going now to see if Pocket-DVD Studio has it to convert to mp4 instead of avi. So YES THE BOLD DOES PLAY VIDEOS GREAT!

I use Videora Ipod Classic Convertor which is free and quick!Around 700 MB for an .avi high quality movie. Use the Ipod 6 settings and be sure to expand video to 480x320 screen.

Hey There,
I use handbrake as well, I use the "Ipod" settings. The film looks great, but the sound does not sync with the video. Is there any other settings I should be aware of?

I'm using Roxio Toast 9.

What causes Lag/Sync issues, is it the Frame Rate? I tried several (25, 29.97 & 30) or and I'm still having issues. I was running .162 and just upgraded to .221 so I'm hoping this fixes it.
