Default 3rd Party App not working on 8830/4.2.2 OS

Thank you ahead of time for any help, your time is appreciated.

I have a MDS push app which is not working on new 8830s running 4.2.2.196 OS. The last model the software functioned on was the 8700 series. RIM has been unable to help. I have sent them all the logs and they say the logs show no data transmission errors. The only difference I can identify between working and non-working are the OS 4.2.1.176. When the app is run, the application requests data updates and the data transmission arrows run and never produce any new data displayed in the app. I am able to push the app via software configuration. Anyone run into anything like this before?

The application is an emergency contact list pulling data from a SQL database. It displayes employees names and phone numbers. I know RIM has a demo app like this but I'd prefer to use this one we currently use. The app has a java customer catcher to keep the data available on the blackberry despite any interuptions in service.

how new are these devices and when was the app installed? looking for a timetable here.

The app has been used since 2006. The devices were purchased early 2008.
