Thumbs up 8900 does play DIVX (sorry if old news)

Please Login to Remove!

I tried a while ago with the Bold (which RIM claimed to partially support divx) and never got any luck. And honestly never heard of it anymore.

Yet today I was using my 8900 16GB card to move from my apt to my gf apt two movies (both Divx coded and .avi format and around 700 mb each). As any weekend in NYC, the train was just taking forever so I was playing with the phone and I realized that under Video both movies were showing. Guess what, tried to play'em and it worked flawlessly! Very smoothly I must say.

I'm on .199

sorry if it's old news

Wirelessly posted (8900)

What is the resolution you have originally? is it more than 480x360? So, can the bb play with a higher resolution and play it?

I can play back any computer formatted (yes, higher than 480x360) videos on mine.. Always have been able to.
Only problem is that battery drain is horrendous so one or less movie will kill your BB. Also, a/v sync was sometimes off.

Yeah its video performance is fantastic. The only problem I'm running into is it sometimes gets an error playing videos I know it can play, but rebooting fixes that.

I beg to differ.
I watched two or three "instructional videos" on my 8900 yesterday. They were Windows Media, and they looked GREAT!

DivX support was available since OS 4.5, if I'm remembering correct. Now if only it had native MKV support...
When in doubt, use All to AVI
