Default My faulty blackberry came today! Help needed :)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello!

Right, so my blackberry is locked to T-Mobile UK it would appear (large logo on the back!). It is not registered with BIS on T Mobile I think - when I type in the IMEI and PIN it comes up with a screen to enter your details. However, when I try with orange it says:

"Cannot create account:

This BlackBerry(R) device is not registered with your wireless service provider.
Please register this device and verify that the URL of the current web site matches
the one provided by your wireless service provider.

To register:

1. In the Application list on your device, click Options, or click Settings Options.

2. Click Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.

3. Click the Menu key and click Register Now.

If the error persists, contact your wireless service provider."

Does this mean it just needs to be unlocked?

Anyway, on with the actual fault! It won't turn on, or charge or connect to the computer (windows 7 with desktop manager installed). Could this be that the USB on the device is damaged? I'm gonna take it apart and take a look to see if anything is damaged tonight. Looks like it's been mistreated a bit, it's got a few scuffs here and there!

Thanks for any help

Where did you get the device?

How did you do the Host Routing Table if it won't power on?

If it's locked to T-Mobile, how do you expect to use it on Orange without unlocking it?

If it won't charge at all, I would suspect the USB port on the device is bad. Try a different (partially charged) battery, and see if it powers on. The reason I said partially charged is because then you can try to charge it and see if it has a charging symbol. If not, then I'd say the USB port is dead.

I can't go any further... it's just what comes up when I tried to register the IMEI and PIN to Orange. I got it off eBay from someone who sells alot of faulty phones, it was cheap! I don't have another battery to check it with either. Would any lights come on when I plugged it into a PC with out a battery or a very flat/dead battery?

Yeah, I believe you should get a red light at first.

If you bought it knowing it's faulty, then you are most likely stuck with it. Not sure what else you can do. It could be water damaged among other things.

Ok so it could be the USB port. I'll take a look. The water sensors are completely white (I know it could still be water damaged but it's still an indication). If I can't get it working then I have a good paper weight... always needed one :P

You could get a charging cradle for it to keep it charged if it is indeed the USB port. You could then possibly sync via Google Sync which is all OTA. As for backup/restore, you will be pretty much SOL with that.

Best of luck.

Ok... I think it's the battery. Maybe. It was reading a massive 0 volts! So a dead battery. Tried to "jump" it but only got it to 3.1 volts and then it started to swell. So it's now definately dead! Anyway, I assume they need the full 3.7V and a battery that won't discharge at 0.01V a second to turn on! I ordered a new Genuine battery which hopefully will help matters, and may have a bit of charge in it too.

The USB port on it appears to be fine, someone else has previously opened it up and pinched the Wi-fi wire. Anyone know if this will affect it? The plastic sheilding is all ok, just very squashed!

Thanks for the help so far...

Fairly good I'd say... It was £40 and second hand working they go for anywhere between £150 and £250. Just seen one go for £50 listed as faulty. It really becomes a bargain when it boots up and works!

Hello again!

My new battery came today, plugged it in and got nothing. Battery was reading around 3.7V and seemed to be powering the mother board (or at least power was getting through!). I was a little disapointed but then remembered seeing a secondary battery on the motherboard.

The voltage on this one was again 0Vs. I found a spare in another mobile phone that has a motherboard manufactured by AT&S (same as blackberry for those who don't know) and later today I will unsolder and resolder the battery. The replacement was reading 1.3Vs but just tested it and it read .3V so giving it a charge now. I found this on another forum, but couldn't find much more about what it does. My battery looks exactly the same, and so does the replacement one.
