Default 8900 FFlash lights up like a flashlight only

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a used BlackBerry 8900 Javelin off a very popular web sight a couple of months ago. The phone worked like a charm until 2 days ago. When I turned the 8900 on in the morning the only thing that happened was flash came on and stayed on like a flashlight. I tried to hold down the power button hoping it would turn off but it continued to shine. I pulled the battery and waited 5 min and put the battery back in and the flash stayed on like a flashlight again. I put the battery in my buddy's 8900 and the battery showed 90%. I connected the 8900 to the BlackBerry desktop manager and it shows "Disconnected" with the battery in or out. I downloaded 8900 software from Rogers and tried to reload the OS but it just said "cannot find device". I am really puzzled because the phone was working flawlessly.
There is no warranty on the phone so I can't return the phone. I called Rogers I was just told "tough luck for you" but for $150. they would send it in for a repair estimate.
I hope there is someone who has the same problem and got it fixed or someone who can give me some insight on what the problem is.

Welcome to the forums.

What happened prior to the light coming on?

Try these steps to get your device to connect:
What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

Before the light came on it was in standby and before that I answered a text with a friend.
I just tried " What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe" and that didn't work. The red light doesn't even come on.

You have to give it a few tries. I've seen it take up to 20 times before it finally connected. Be patient and follow each step to the letter. It works. I've done it plenty of times.

I tried that a few times yesterday and again just now. Still no luck. The PC doesn't recognize that something is pluged in to the USB port.

Follow these steps:

* If you do not see USB:UNKNOWN or USB:BBPIN, then follow instructions listed in a1-a5:

a1) Disconnect the device from the PC.

a2) Keep the Application Loader Wizard window open

a3) Remove the battery and put it back

a4) While the red led is on, reconnect the device to the PC. The led will only stay on for a few seconds

a5) When USB:UNKNOWN appears in the drop down list, you need to immediately select Next

Are you using a USB hub? Have you tried different USB ports? Have you tried rebooting the PC?

Download first the Desktop Manager 5.0 from Blackberry page, after that download the last firmware for your phone. The link to the firmware may be found in this forum in another thread.
Follow the instruction and flash the phone, It will be function

Tried that with no luck. Like I said "No Red Light Ever" PC and Desktop Manager doesn't recoginize the 8900.
I don't understand what and why it happened.

Try and get your money back from whoever sold it to you. sounds like you are swimming upstream. The flash coming on constantly can be done if you go into the movie mode with flash turned on via Options (I have a Quicklaunch shortcut for that). To have that happen spontaneuously isn't good.
