Default Switch Profile at a given hour?

Please Login to Remove!

I see where I can time my BB to shut OFF at say or 11 or 12 PM when I goto sleep, but what I'd prefer is to switch from my Default (which beeps on level 1 messages from my office) to Phone Only so I can sleep !
At present I have to remember to switch profiles manually as I set it aside for the night.
Has anyone else lamented this? My boss just got an 8700 - same as my 7290 it appears. Thoughts?

I would also greatly appreciate this. I would like to automatically switch my profile at night time as well, but I have to let it auto off instead. My old Nokia 6340 had timed profiles. They would not do what we are asking for here, but you could tell it after X hours to switch to profile Y so that if you silenced it for a meeting, it would change to another profile in case you forgot to unsilence it.

I would LOVE it if I could switch profiles based on my calendar. Have a setting that switches to my "quiet" profile while in meetings. I believe MS Mobile does that.

Yeah, you know if they can do a timed power off they could do a timed profile swap.

What I do is just put my 8700c in my holster at bedtime, so it switches to the holster profile... works for me. I've got my in-holster profile to vibrate + give a tone for level 1 messages. Everything else is vibrate only or muted.

mbay2002 offers the only work-around available right now that I'm aware of but, unfortunately, it's only half of a solution. I have different in-holster profiles set up because sometimes I want an audible tone for calls/messages and sometimes I don't when my BB's on my hip. Thus, if I'm using my most-used profile, I'd still have to switch profiles to get to a silent-in-holster version before putting it in my holster at beddy-by time...

It's been awhile and I'm no longer certain, but I used a Sony Ericsson T610 for about a year and, while a BB blows it away, one great OS feature I think it offered was full user customization, including the ability to switch profiles at designated times. Regardless, this isn't hard to program, and I hope that as BBs continue to move more into the consumer mainstream, this will be a feature RIM adds. I've e-mailed RIM this suggestion, and I encourage you to also...

I've been checking on the developers section, and several people have asked if it's possible to make a program to do this (I would love it too). Some have sent e-mails to RIM asking how to access the "profiles" through the API, and RIM has written them back and said that it is not possible right now, but that it is a very often requested addition to their APIs, so hopefully they will add that in 4.2 or sooner.

Has anyone heard any more details about this feature? This is the one thing I miss about my Hiptop/Sidekick 2 soooooooooooooooo badly. I have my professional understated somewhat quiet ringtone and email alert noises set in one profile called "Work" and then I have my annoying music mp3 ringer and loud binging noises for messages set in a "Weekend" profile.

I really wish I could set timed profiles like: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm use Work, Mon-Fri 5pm-9am & Sat-Sun 12am-12am use Weekend. That would be SWEET.

So, any news?

Those features sound great, my ideal would be like this:

Monday - Friday, from this time to that time, use profile 1, other times, use profile 2.
Saturday - Sunday, same thing, but independent of weekdays

Option to switch to a "quiet" profile of my choice, and enter how long it stays in that profile before it goes back to where it was before, this would be great for meetings.

I'd also like to have a "Snooze" feature on Reminders like I have on Lotus Notes on my Desktop!!!

I'll add my $0.02 here and say that this would be a huge move forward on RIM's part.
I need this and I hope they actually do this!

I will do one even better, give me the option in my calendar to assign a profile to a meeting. If I want it to the phone switches to the "Meeting" Profile during my meeting, then once the meeting has ended on my BB switches back to my default. That would be killer!

Try Message Alerts at

"+mablackberry+"

It works great for me. I am on call 24/7 and have it set up that it has silent alerts at night from 9:00opm till 6"00am except for messages from email accounts that I select. It works great. I can select just about everything. It has rules that are completely custom.

JeffW,

I agree with you, I use Message Alerts and it is the closest thing to auto switching profiles on the BB with some configuration. Just be sure to not have your current profile setup to ring, vibrate things like that, so that Message Alerts can execute its rules first. www dot webmessenger dot com/products/mablackberry dot htm

This utility works GREAT! It essentially gives you "scheduled profiles"!
