I am a Grad Student who uses the 7100t for just about everything from office applications to games and browsing.

If this is the wrong place for this question sorry!
I am a T-Mobile customer who just returned my 7290... I am really bummed. My company would not allow me to connect to their BES and our email is within our VPN, so I had no way to even push my email. They said that unless my company buys the BB, I won't get ot connect. It is like being given a shotgun with rubberbands to shoot. I don't know what my options are as I would like more PDA functionality in the BB, but I don't know what to do. I hope the BB is a good one because the number 1 draw for me was the BES, which is now out of the picture for me. This is a serious bummer. Now with TMO not coming out with a BB in the 8000 series, I am almost mad and bummed because they seem to be very behind and I am tired of it after having just signed up with them.

P.S. I have a laptop and it is a royal pain setting up the redirector... it is just not the same.

P.S.S. Here is a dialogue with a T-Mobile rep that some might find interesting:'

Dear Robert Iverson ,

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile.

Upgrading your price plan to our 3000 min family plan has nothing to do with your upgrade. The only thing that matters about upgrades is when you last upgraded your phone for instance consider your phone upgrade and your price plan upgrades as two different types of plans. If you upgrade your price plan it does not mess up anything that has to to do with your handset upgrade which is in your case would be the Blackberry 8000 Series. So good news on your behalf and that phone is going to be awesome.

If you have any further comments, questions, or concerns feel free to contact us at anytime.

Thank you for choosing T-Mobile.

Sincerely,

Gabriel

I just bought my 7250 and am totally in love with it... as much as I like to get the latest and greatest technology I do not yet want to part with my 7250. I know that's how technology goes, buy it today, outdated tomorrow, but I'd just like to hold onto my 7250 for sedimental reasons. After all it popped my Blackcherry. 7250 will definetly have EVDO. I got a preview of the EVDO feature last week on the 7250 and it was sweet. Wish they could have left it with me, but they wouldn't. They were talking another 6-8 weeks before commercial release and saying that it hasn't finished their cetrification process yet.

What was the difference, that makes you think its sweet? Does the CPU really process everything fast enough for that speed, so that web pages load faster, push is fast, ect...? I cant see the benefit really, unless they get streaming video, VCAST, on there, or if you use it to tether...

What really made it sweet was that it was demonstrated as an IP modem connected to a laptop via USB.

So I can use it as a usable high speed internet wireless card (i.e. not at the sllow speeds of GPRS) when I am in the office/at home/in hotel/etc and when I walk out into the world it is a BlackBerry.

When I look at my business needs, that is a really compelling proposition - wireless broadband, wireless mobile data and a mobile phone in one device.

It looked like the BB itself was faster in other areas as well, including attachment processing, browser, etc, but I didn't get to play with it long enough to make any real conclusions.

Is it as fast as a EV-DO PC card?

That is a good question. What is the CPU speed of the 7250? I heard somewhere that the 7100t used a 144MHz processor. And since the 7250 is faster then I'm assuming it uses a faster processor. However, it is true that if the processor and the device in general doesn't have the internal bandwidth needed, there will be a limit to how much speed the BB will get from the EVDO network. On the same token, at least we'd know that the bottleneck isn't on the network end but the device. For me, I'de rather have a device that is limited by itself versus other external variables.

So what is the CPU speed of the 7250 (or any of the BB's)?

Yes, every bit as fast as an EVDO PC Card. We had them both running side by side connected to a laptop and the speed test appeared to show the speeds as the same.

Not sure how fast it will truly operate as a BlackBerry alone or what functions it will utilize EVDO best for. Not really concerned actually as the main things I need BB for are not reliant on a hugely fast network, but it will hopefully help the speed of some of the many applications we run such as our CRM client software and Remedy desktop.

On the other hand - the 8700/Electron for CDMA is a LONG way away, but the 7130e is not though.

I have seen early models of the 7130e and not only does it look good, but I am told it can be considered a 'second generation 7100 series device'. As long as it certifies ok it should be not long before it is out.

I can probably see the carriers releasing EVDO code for both the 7250 and 7130e at the same time as the 7130e becomes available I am guessing.

I have seen prototype 8700's for GPRS already so not long for this device I hope. It looks pretty cool to me.

Any word on the specs of this Blackberry? Other than Broadband (EVDO), what other improvements will it have over the current 7100 series?

I really liked my Blackberry 7100g with Cingular, but I hated that Cingular charged extra for 3rd party data, and I hated the dreadfully slow GPRS. It sounds like this could be the device for me.

Will it have a built in AIM program as well?

Well the head post to this topic by athreya said the 8700 was being tested already with Oct/Nov release. Who's got the correct scoop?

Athreya,

What's up with T-Mobile... they seem to be offerring less and less phones lately. Are they about to come out with a bunch of new ones? I got that email from a Tech at T-Mobile that seemed to indicate that they were coming out with something new... I hope so.

P.S.

UT --> 25
Ohio --> 22

Billing for EVDO? So they will charge additional beyond their unlimited data plan? That could be viewed in a negative light!!

I do not see NXTL releasing the device first, I know for a fact Cingular people are already testing the 8700 series. But as for "Sprint," what would be the point of releasing a new device like that when the plan for data will be pushed to CDMA?

Also NXTL's nexted device will be the 7100 series, which has already been approved and is in WINSS already.

T-Mobile most likely opted for the exclusive on the 7105 series updated handheld, as its been their biggest seller for the BlackBerry line, if I'm not mistaken. They will follow with the 8700, most likely with a different color case/shell, in early Q1 (probably end of Jan).

Mr Pink, the FCC has not approved Nextel's 7100 handheld, FYI. You can go look up filings on the FCC website - their last filed and approved device was the smart card reader.

They can request that the FCC keeps it not public until the public release of the product.
