The US uses 850 and 1900. T-Mobile towers in the US are 1900 only. Cingular is mixed and AT&T is more 850 than 1900

850 and 1900 are used in North America and parts of South America, 850 penetrates deeper into buildings but uses more batery power as the transceiver operates at full 3W (or higher those few handset can go higher if at all, most use 1W on 1900/1800 and 3W on 850/900) capacity.

900 and 1800 are used in the rest of the world (Europe, APAC, etc.) and 900 will penetrate deeper than 1800 but will use more battery power.

How long did it take to get the service book? I have made several requests and it never seems to arrive. Also, where does the E-mail Setup icon appear? Main screen?

Thanks

So I guess this won't help my low reception issues inside my home. Did the 7100 not support 1800/1900 before or is this just a fix for them?

You already have the 850 and 1900 bands, so if you still have low reception it won't get much better unless you live in an area where TMO hasn't rolled out 850 yet. In this case once they roll it out in your area it will get somewhat better.

I cannot get the E-mail setup icon to appear. This worries me because TMo is dumping the BIS website this weekend. I tried deleting the service book and resending it - got the book but no welcome message or E-mail Setup icon. Any ideas?

The carrier can "install" a list of acceptable towers into the phone. I was reading on Howard forums where some users hacked the firmware on a phone because it seemed to be ignoring a particular set of towers in California and getting almost no coverage.

These enhancements may be some updates that allow access to more towers or something like that.

When I did the update late last night, it came immediately. Of course, probably not as many people were requesting service books at that time.
The E-Mail setup icon is located in Tools, between the Device Help and Compose Icons. Check the software version and ensure it is V4.0.2.49 (Tools-->Settings-->About)

Got it! Whew. Thanks

Interestingly enough, the problem was that the Default (List) theme does not show that in any list - I had to change back to an icon based them or the O2 theme to see it. O2's not so bad - think I'll stick with it for a while...

Default Custom Words Collection Disappeared

Hi folks,

After the upgrade, I've noticed that my Custom Words Collection, which had a hundred or so words, now only has a few entries from words I've just typed since the upgrade. I've tried to do a selective restore with Desktop Manager, and when I selected the "CustomWordsCollection" file from a previoius backup, it won't highlight the arrow to allow me to transfer it over to the BB.

Any idea as to why or how I can restore them?

Thanks

Man, it took forever for this thing to reboot afterwards. Like 45 mins and now it's really really really slow. Anyone else?

Funny how they claim to of fixed the high pitch sounds during a call. Well, I was on the speakerphone after the upgrade and it still does the high pitched noises at random times during the call.

go to Advanced and save the backup file to another filename (just to keep your original). on the new file, delete everything from the right side except the custom words database. save this file. go back out to the Backup/Restore screen and select restore then select that file.

Anyone with TMO had the problem where they get a high-pitched sound when calling their voicemail? We've had several people report that. It wasn't the phones though because I saw it happen when calling from another phone.

Never had that problem. Not even after the latest upgrade.

I found several things,
first, yes, it seemed to take forever to upgrade.
like others email icom vanished, trying right now to get it back.
BUT; on the plus side, bbtoday (the weather and stock part) now works great!
I did however have to add the wap.voicestream.com again to the tcp section of settings, the upgrade left that empty.

same thing as others, no email icon after upgrade (no, it is not hidden). tried going to the web to resend service books but could not find the link. i'm pretty new to all this so any help in getting the icon back is appreciated. also, right at the end of the handheld upgrade, when it said it was replacing the backed up data, the phone got "stuck" in an hourglass loop. the computer status bar kept moving really slowly. finally, the message on the computer was something about multiple stage load could not complete and it went no further. the phone says it has the latest softeware and seems to work fine, with the exception of the missing icon. is there any reason i should try and start over and if so, how do i do that?

thanks in advance
