Default Hardware specs for 170 user BES box?

Please Login to Remove!

Can I trouble some of the veteran BES admins to make some recommendations on hardware/software to run 170 BES users talking to MS-Exchange?

Is v5.0 64-bit friendly yet?

See this:

Hardware requirements: BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Basically I would say go with the upto 500 users category....the only difference is the two processors (which in upto 200 users is also recomended).

And yes, v5.0 is 64 bit friendly...

Do you recommend going to real SQL for the database or is MSDE still ok?

I am pretty sure I read that MSDE is fine for upto 500 users.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong!

I would recommend SQL2008 Express myself - MSDE is old and busted (well not really - but it is old ;)). You'll run into the same types of problems with full SQL, but long before it's critical. I stopped using MSDE on everything - SQL 2005 Express is the minimum that I run.

As of this posting SQL 2008 is not officially supported with BES. That said, it does work.

If you've got nothing else running on the BES other than SQL & BES (and BAS), I'd allocate 3GB of RAM, and at least 2GHz of processor to start.

So you have tested BES 5.0 on Server 2008 and SQL 2008 (Express or Enterprise) and it works just fine?
