Default Another Today Plus Theme - 8900 - Clean, stock look

Please Login to Remove!

Alright, I decided to throw together a simple Today theme with the Plus bar at the bottom. Nothing too fancy, all stock icons and graphics used, just mixed up a little from some other models.

Icons on the home screen bounce when rolled over, and I've added the date to the small menu bar that is shown in other menus. Overall I just wanted a simple clean theme that had my messages and calendar items on the front.

Let me know what you think, it's the first theme I've posted!

Theme name: Today Plus

Theme credits: RIM (All stock graphics)

Nice looking theme Hatax. You were one of the first people to assist me on this forum... Good to see you again.

Just an opinion about the theme: I would smooth the font for the today text... It looks a little rigid.

It does look rigid in the screen shot, but on the device you don't see jaggies at all. The font used for those is BBClarity and the Anti-Alias is turned on for those fonts.

I also noticed in the screen shot it looks like the date gets cut off in the icon menu, when in fact it's 2 pixels away from the edge. Ohh well, if you'd prefer a different font for those menu items I could whip one up easily enough.

Also, the icons on the bottom have a text display as well, here's a screen shot of what that looks like:

Last week was kind of a little hiatus from being in the frigid north. We didn't even get below freezing at night for 5 days and most daytime temps were near 50 and very sunny.

But just a month ago it was -20 some degrees at night, God I love this state...

That's actually just a pushed browser channel from Accuweather. There isn't an application to install, its just updated a few times throughout the day and links to a webpage. Keeps the application space on the device open for other applications, and I don't have another background process downloading data by itself.

You can sign up for it on your blackberry here:

HaTaX-

Bravo! I have tried out many themes for my new 8900 and yours is by far my favorite. I have a few suggestions though that I think could make it even better:

1. Roll Up/Down to the same Icon. Right now in order to select "Messages" or "Calendar" entries from the bottom bar, you have to scroll left. Can you make it so scrolling up will select them? Also can you then scroll back down to where you left off? If you do a google search for "Stock Today Plus for the Blackberry Curve 8900" and look at the first hit, there is a video that shows this functionality.
2. Option for non-bouncing icons - is there a way to have another theme without the bouncing icons? It doesn't seem to work properly on downloaded apps that did not come pre-loaded.
3. Messages notification on Messages screen sometimes gets stuck on. I don't know if you can fix this or not. It might not even be a result of the theme, might be something with my BES.

Thanks again for your work. The theme is fantastic.

Cheers,
wyld

Took care of the above two requests for you here:

http://hatax.home.comcast.net/~hatax...oday_plus2.jad

I replaced the bouncing icons with the flash animation so it should work okay with 3rd party apps, but honestly the bouncing worked fine with all my 3rd party apps. Even vyMail and YouMail work okay with it, and I know viigo worked as well but I didn't test them all.

All the icons are now locked to left, right navigation and up brings you to calendar and messages, while rolling down brings you to whatever icon you came up from.

Other then that, it's all the same.

And as a word of CAUTION, if you want to use this theme and already have the first version installed, REMEMBER to first switch back to the stock theme, and delete the old theme FIRST! I've had problems with not removing the old version of the theme if I do an update and restart, causes funky problems and my messages app seems to crash. So to avoid that:

1.) Switch to stock theme.
2.) Delete old theme, restart if asked to.
3.) Install new theme.

I'll add it to my original post so others can grab it as well.

Default Great job!

Great job on the theme. Looks very close to the Today Plus I had on my old 8830.

Question... I noticed your screen shots said T-Mobile on them. Any chance of adding the icons from the Precision T-Mobile theme like...
  • Instant Messaging folder
  • Applications folder
  • Games folder
  • Downloads folder
  • Settings folder

Default Scrolling bug...

When leaving a folder to return to the 'Home' folder, if you scroll LEFT past the leftmost icon in the row, the highlight on the icon disappears and the text changes to the text for the top left icon. If you scroll back DOWN of RIGHT, the highlight reappears, starting at the top left position and you can't recreate the problem until opening a subfolder and going back up to the 'Home' folder.

When entering a subfolder from the 'Home' folder, if you scroll LEFT past the leftmost icon in any row, the highlight on the icon disappears and the text changes to the text for the top left icon. If you scroll back DOWN or RIGHT, the highlight reappears, starting at the top left position and you can't recreate the problem until leaving and re-entering the subfolder.

The same problem occurs when leaving a subfolder to return to the 'Home' folder except you can't recreate the problem until opening a subfolder and going back up to the 'Home' folder.

Now here's the weird part...

When going from the Home screen to the 'Home' folder, the problem only occurs if you didn't previously hit the Back/Escape button from the 'Home' folder to get to the Home screen. For example, open a subfolder and press the RED button to get to the Home screen. Then, hit the BlackBerry button (one left of the trackball) and it will bring you to the 'Home' folder. Then you can recreate the problem.
