Default 8820 Continually Rebooting Automatically

Please Login to Remove!

Maybe someone can help shed some light on this problem I've been experiencing with a user's BB here at work. This guy's BlackBerry keeps rebooting automatically and it's been an ongoing issue for 4 months. He is now on his 4th 8820. I've wiped and reloaded every device he's had, deleted and re-added his account to the BES, reloaded the handheld software, made sure there's no third party apps that could be corrupting the device, checked to make sure he has enough memory, and even changed the SIM card. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this problem to follow every replacement BlackBerry he's received? Any insight would be helpful...

Thank you!

I guess is something the user is doing. I don't think he has so bad luck to get 4 defective devices in a row. Maybe he is installing something or loading ringtones, videos or pictures

That's what I thought too, so i've been keeping a close eye on the device to make sure there are no funky ring tones and what nots. Originally he never deleted email off of it so the storage space was at it's limit and he had numerous 3rd party downloads ( we don't allow 3rd party apps as it's only to be used for work related purposes ). Since I told him it could be the source of the problem he has not downloaded anything and he's kept his e-mail clean. My only thoughts are that there's either something going on on the BES side ( which there shouldn't be because I deleted his profile ) or he's just screwing with me :/

Hi chaps,

Have same issue with my one, rebooting accidently and losing carrier some times.
After update to latest software from BB UK everythingxxx8217;s looks fine.
Still same applications on it and all day without rebooting (it is not funny)
Now I'm on latest from here i will see Tomorrow morning.

Apology if my English is not perfect, and Hi All (first message).

Regards,
Rob

If he has an SD card, save everything and reformat the card, restore everything.

I'll check with latest software, and works fine. No problems at all.

Regards,
Rob

I've had a similar thing happening with my 8820, and I can't really figure out some of the things that are happening to this thing. I'm not sure if it's the OS, I have 4.5.0.81, and I've been finding a lot of problems with certain themes. The device randomly reboots like others have said here, but I also find the theme resetting itself. Everything will be fine, and I'll shut the device off at night. The next morning when I reboot the wallpaper will be changed to the default, and the icons are all rearranged and the ones that I had hidden are back. I'm not sure what this means, and it's not the biggest problem because the phone works fine, besides these little quirks, but it is somewhat frustrating. I'm just waiting for the next OS upgrade and I'm hoping that will change it.

^^ x 2!!

If this user has a media card, it's likely the common denominator across all four devices....

Why is it that media cards cause so much trouble with devices. I have a 2gb card in my 8820, never had one in my 8310, and I've been told that's the cause for my freezes and reboots before.

Just out of curiosity, any idea why this is?

I believe it has something to do with file system changes in the way the device stores/access data on the card. This only became an issue with the 4.5 updates it appears.
