Overwhelming support for a chat area in the off-topic area...

Thoughts? Suggestions? ect....

I will volunteer to moderate a chat if it's added.... link should ONLY be included in off-topic area...

Easily done, easily moderated, so why not???

Can make all us BBFAQ slugs chat moderators... OR pick new ones.... I think the desire is overwhelming.... Can be easily done and give users a place to relax and chit chat....

Unfortunately this won't happen. Posts are not inserted into the database, therefore not searched, not indexed, and most definitely not indexed by google which 60% of the sites traffic comes from. It is just not a feasible environment to go from forum to chat.

Guess,

I don't think they were asking for the forum to change over to chat, just that a chat area be added....

Adding a chat area could potentially take much needed traffic away from the forum.
This would be a bad thing.

I like the idea of a chat because it would provide instant answers to problems for people who are already members and have a few posts, but still feel the newer members would shy away and use the forum. I could be completely wrong as I have never been part of a forum with this many members. I have used java and irc chats for forums and IRC seems more stable, but people might not want to get the programs to run it, and even then might be confused with setup. there are my 2 cents, I vote for a chat and IRC.
EDIT: As I re-read this I thought well you could have a post limit to be reached before allowing people into the chat area, which would solve the problem of people not using the forum.

Obviously there is PROS and CONS to this hole thing but when I came up with this idea I was looking at all the people on the site and was wondering if they where as bored as I was and just felt like chatting with some cool people from this site. I think this would be a great idea and we should find a way to go for it.

Or we could just talk about off-topic stuff on a chat console... but what would happen to the OT forum... as for me, whatever works as long as BBF would still be the #1 BlackBerry Community...

In the meantime, let's get back and have fun in the OT channel...

Agreed?
