So I found this article stating that Gmail is now adding AIM chat support to their system (Gmail: Gmail Adds AIM Support to Chat, does this mean we can now get on AIM through the RIM made Gtalk software program? I know you can with transports and all that, but does this possibly indicate native support for AIM?

Wow, the speed of information dissemination was incredible. I went to the website to read up and the log into Aim wasn't showing up on Gmail. So I tried IE instead of Firefox and no go. Went back to Firefox a few minutes later and still not there. A few minutes later and there it is.

Seems to be integrated into the browser version but cell phone is exactly the same. The AIM contacts don't get added as Google Talk contacts, they're still separate. Have to log in with an AIM username.

I just signed in AIM using Gmail client. I read up something that the Google uses the AIM open API to login.

Anyway, it is a big step and I can chat with my friends on AIM when I log into Gmail.
