And if not, am I the only one where VZNav does not draw the opening screens correctly -- program still seems to work -- but screens only take up 1/4 of the display.

If the GPS is unlocked then you could look at navigation apps (most free) which can be found in the GPS and Mapping forum. Doing so would make it feasible to drop VZnavigator.

I am not a user of navigator so I cannot shed any light on your display issue.

VZNav works perfectly for me. Better than on the Curve. Looks sharper and the best part is the voice directions go to bluetooth if the device has stereo profile. (i.e. most in-car systems, the Blackberry VM-605, Motorola device, etc)

I haven't tried any free ones, but I suspect they don't truly compare in all respects. The other pay services that people talk about being equal to it are about the same price as VZNav.

May want to try Google Maps, MapQuest Mobile is suppose to support GPS to.

I use Mapquest Navigator and it is really cheap. About $40 a year. It gives you everything VZ Navigator does. I have yet to find a totally free one that is easy to use and still give you verbal turn by turn directions. If anybody know of one O would be happy to hear what it is.

I didn't realize the free GPS mapping software didn't provide spoken turn by turn directions. I like that part.

I have been happy with VZNav, I just thought that now that it was GPS-unlocked, free software was the better choice.

Mapquest does offer a "drive" or "walk" choice. Haven't tried mapquest yet on the 9630 but I would guess it should work.

I just looked at mapquest site and was unable to get either app for the Tour and on VzW
Hopefully they will update 4 Mobile soon.

Yes, there are free programs out there but it boils down to personal preference. I prefer the turn-by-turn voice directions and other features offered in VZNav. I haven't found a free program that offers voice-enabled turn-by-turn directions.

The VZNav splash page should load in full screen. I initially had problems and needed to have VZW re-provision my BB with the domestic version of VZNav and then delete and reinstall for it to work correctly.

I looked at the website for AmazeGPS and noticed it displays ads on each screen. I wasn't impressed with that. Also in the demo vidoes it didn't give street names which I would not like. VZNav has never failed me and I'm not thinking about changing.

Agreed, I tried AmazeGPS for a while but did not care for the ads. I have yet to find anything better than VZNav or Telenav. They are the only GPS apps that I would ever choose to use.

Just an update.

If you delete the VZNav application from the application list in Advanced Options, it will leave a link icon for you to reinstall. Once reinstalled, everything is perfect.

I downloaded TeleNav's free Beta the other day and it really works well. I had an appointment in my Outlook calendar where I listed the street address in the "Location" section of Outlook. When I looked up the appointment in my calendar, I was able to go automatically to TeleNav which started to give me turn by turn directions that were as good as my Garmin. It also has POI's and traffic updates. The cost is $9.99 per year after a 30 day free trial, $99.00 per year, or $249.00 for 4 years.
