Default Verizon 9550 on Rogers

Has anyone bought a Verizon 9550 and unlocked it (I've used Horizon Wireless before) and put in a Rogers SIM card?

Ralph,

Does yours say Activation Required instead of Rogers? My Storm2 from Telus (unlocked) says Activation Required if I insert my Rogers or T-Mobile SIM card.

Oh OK; so the steps required are -
1. Get a Rogers SIM and add BB data to the SIM.
2. Log on to the Rogers BIS & set up the email.
3. That's it?

I have a verizon unlocked storm2 as well.

as for your activation required issue.
just go to the phone. key in ##000000.
then under the mobile directory number, enter in your telephone number.
then the phone should reset itself and you should no longer have the activation required showing.

I guess the Telus 9550 phones have MSL codes specific to your phone. I just walked into the Telus store where I got my 9950 from and asked them about the MSL code. They punched my IMEI number into their system and viola, out came an MSL code. Did the ##xxxxxx and the screen came up to put in my phone number, save and reboot and now I am in business.

I got my Verizon locked 9550 from eBay and then got an unlock code from a website. It worked well for me on Rogers, including the ##000000. Maybe your phone wasn't properly unlock from where you buy from? Did you ask the seller how you can activate the phone?

I unlocked it through Horizon Wireless and verified that is it unlocked. Both my Rogers and T-Mobile SIM cards work in the phone. Apparently the Storm2 from Telus has specific MSL codes that are tied to the IMEI number. the ##000000 does not work. I gave the Telus store my IMEI number and they gave me the code. Easy!

I also unlocked a Verizon 9550 to use on Rogers. Works reallly well. How do you get rid of the Verizon logo on power up, as well as the question about automatically selecting CDMA or GSM based on network availability?

You can't get rid of the Verizon logo or any logo on startup. That is burned into the chip. I think this has been discussed before to no end.

Under Network Technology I use GSM/UMTS and under Network Mode I use 3G & 2G. I get all my emails and can surf using my data plan. However I can't use the Wifi Hotspot browser. But that is another thread.

Default No 3g in your area?

Rogers 3G frequency is at 1900 I think and the BB 9950 3G signal only runs on the 2100 frequency. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I've seen this before on another thread.

Yes, xuser is correct...you will only be able to get EDGE on Rogers. The 9550 3G GSM bands will only work in Europe not North America....so no 3G on Rogers or AT&T in the states.
