Thumbs down Lackluster Volume and e-mail Push

Please Login to Remove!

I have a VZW 8703e, and I am not too thrilled with the volume level at 100%, I used it with two BT headsets and the BB itself, lowest of any VZW phone I've ever owned. Also my push e-mail seems to push instantly sometimes, and then takes awhile other times. Does BB push outlook emails faster than ones coming from ISPs such as yahoo!.

Is there a hack for the volume level?

The time it takes for you to get your email to your phone will depend on the provider your using (yahoo, google, hotmail...)... My hotmail will take up to a minute to realize that it should forward it and my gmail will be quicker than it makes it to my mailbox. So for that, there isn't much you can do about it.

As for the sound, yea, it sucks, so does the MIC. something we're all living with

I have to disagree, the volume on the phone speaker itself as well as with my two BT headsets are fine, and I am slightly hard of hearing in both ears. So it is not something we are "all living with". However volume has been a problem for other users as you will read on this board.

I am not aware of a hack for the volume level, however, since you don't state your BB device OS version, check your current version against the latest posted on your carrier's website and upgrade if you installed version is not the latest. You will read on the board elsewhere that updated OS has solved the volume problem for some people.

Likewise, you will find push email, from your POP account on BIS, to the BB occurs basically on an approximate 15 minute cycle. If your have mail, then it checks again in about two minutes. On the other hand, yes, gmail and yahoo do push quicker (almost instantly I am told).

I was misunderstood - i was referring to the sound quality of the speakerphone. The ear piece itself is great but the speakerphone in my office isn't very loud. I have times when i am using it so multiple people can converse, and it's just not loud enough. Sorry for the confusion.

No problem, understood. I don't have a prob with my 8700g speakerphone either though, it works well, and often I have to turn it down when using it with a group of people.

I assume my OS version is 4.1, when I goto Options>About I get the following:

Blackberry 8703e
Wireless handheld (cdma)
v4.1.3.344 (platform 2.2.0.149)

Is this the most recent for VZW?

I have no problems using a Plantronics Voyager 510 BT headset... I know you said you've tried both of yours and I understand that performance is better with your other phones but I've found BT headset performance to vary from phone-to-phone...

Delivery time definitely varies based on provider and account type. FYI -- your email doesn't come from Outlook. Outlook's just a mail client. I'm guessing you're using it to retrieve POP email?

The Plantronics Voyager 510 is one of the two I've tested, the other is the Jabra BT250v, both which are SUPER loud on my past phones.

By outlook, I meant corporate email like from my job, sorry for being vague

I can barely hear the phone ring as well, even when I have the "loud" profile. Do I just have a defective unit or am I partially deaf and the Blackberry has brought it to light?

I know this may sound like a dumb suggestion -- BUT, you do know how to turn up the volume on both your BB and separately the BT headsets?

Just last week a local friend told me couldn't hear on his BT headset, so while he had it on his ear and I reached up and tapped the volume level up and showed him where the volume indicator on his phone was barely above 1/2 level... and well, he has volume now.

Remember also, your phone could be set to volume of the pevious call (Phone > Options > General Options: scroll to bottom: Default Call volume, check your preference there).

Good luck with it.
