Default How exactly does a PIN work?

Please Login to Remove!

Just wondering if anyone can explain to me how this PIN works?

I have been told that PINNING someone, either by regular message or through BB messenger that it will not go through my work server, so no one is actually able to read the messages except for the people sending and receiving.

How does this actually work?

first you need to install a bb messenger on your device.. second you need to add someone's PIN, just make sure they also have a bb messenger. And there you go. Once you added them and they added then ya'll can PIN each other.

And everybody is happy :D

You don't need to install BB messenger to the device. Pinning works without it. All you do is add a persons PIN to their contact card in your address book and fire away pin messages (similar to emailing). I don't think that it goes through the server. But I'm not sure about that one. If you do install BBmessenger (that's like IM) It does use PIN for communication

PIN workflow runs from device -> wireless carrier -> device and bypasses the BES server.

Check the search facility at the top of the page, a two second search produced these results:

Hey Guys,

There are a couple key points about PIN messaging that this thread and the other two are missing.

- Message Flow for PIN message is as followings Device > Carrier Network > Relay > Carrier Network > Device

- PIN messaging does not go through your corporate environment, so you are able to PIN to PIN when you BES or Mail Server is down.

- PIN to PIN messaging is NOT 3DES or AES encrypted. It is only encrypted using a hash. SMS is plain text, so PIN is more secure but a hash is a low level of encryption.

-PIN to PIN messages, SMS message and phone call logs are now able to be logged and audited in BES 4.1. The logging is off by defualt but you can assign an IT policy to any user to start logging their PIN, SMS and call logs.

Hope this helps,
