Default Annoying page title in BB Browser next to arrow (OS 5.0.0.411)

Please Login to Remove!

I just upgraded to OS 5 from 4.6 and I have noticed an annoying feature that in the browser window next to the arrow there is a one-two line window showing current page title. What's worst it stays and does not disappear until you click in the other part of screen where it pops up.
It is taking a lot of space and obstructs reading.

Is there any way to remove it?

Are you talking about the line at the top of the window that has your signal and message indicator? If so, press the 'u' key to toggle it on and off.

If you press "u" on the keyboard, does it go away ?

Please see the attached pics.

It is strange as I can remove it by changing the Browser Identification (Options>Browser Confirguration) from "Blackberry" to "Firefox".

The other thing that confuses me is that I do not experience this on all web sites.

Pressing "u" does not remove it, only the top bar.

I'm pretty certain this is caused by the html "alt" attribute that is coded into some if not most web pages. The purpose is described like this:

Quote:
The "alt" attribute tells the reader what he or she is missing on a page if the browser can't load images. The browser will then display the alternate text instead of the image. It is a good practice to include the "alt" attribute for each image on a page, to improve the display and usefulness of your document for people who have text-only browsers.
As to whether it's appropriate for BB browsers I cannot answer. Maybe the new browser isn't fully functional yet. Who knows....

Just thought this information would help us all understand the phenomenon.

Check to make sure that your default browser hasn't been changed. Under AT&T, when moving to 5.0, there's something that regularly removes the "blackberry browser" and leaves you with "MediaNET" and "Hotspot Browser". The standard internet browser seems to get whacked sometime between every two and seven days.

Hmmm, I haven't seen that before. On the same screen where you change your Browser from BlackBerry to Firefox, is your Start page set at Start or Home page? I don't know if that is helpful or not, but I would suggest setting this as Start. Since we have different carriers, I am not certain what impact this might have. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

OK this is a new feature which whenever you mouse over an image or a link now it displays the ALT text. devnull already answered this in an earlier reply to this thread.

I have checked the options and there is nothing indicating that you can disable the ALT text for an image or link. For now until RIM decides to incorporate this so we can turn it on or off we just have to deal with it.

My mistake! I didn't realize *that* was what the OP was referencing (I was thinking the header). Those thumbnails are teeny to my eyes, and clicking on them, my BlackBerry browser would render nothing but a blank page. Glad the problem was solved. Personally, I like the new feature, as it saves me the trouble of clicking links sometimes (because it provides additional info).

Thanks to all for clarification, in particular to devnull.
Let's see when BB allows users to turn alt off or finally realeases a fully functional browser (hopefully based off Iris Browser)
