Try uninstalling all previous versions of the OS you might have installed, and re-installing OS 5.0. (deleting vendor.xml afterwards).

You can try running loader.exe instead of Desktop Manager as noted in the steps from the sticky post regarding the download and install steps.

If those things don't work, you may have to wipe your device and load the OS from scratch. Make sure you back up your system to restore from afterwards.

Try running opening up a command window on your PC (Start>Run>cmd) and type the following command:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe" /nojvm

See if that forces the OS to load.

If not, you'll have to wipe your device first (because you don't have a data plan).

It won't pick it up if you don't have a data plan, that happened to me,
but you can wipe your device using JL_Cmdr or BBSAK and it'll pick it right up

i heard that wiping the device isnt good when your computer wont recognize your OS because it may still not find it and then you will be left with a phone with no OS until you figure out the problem is that true??

As long as you dont completly **** up the BootROM, your phone should be recoverable.

trust me, balckberrys are almost impossible to kill / brick. however, it can still be done (its just very, very hard...)

My advice

1) uninstall all the BB software (desktop manager, OS packages...etc). reboot ad run ccleaner before installing again. Also, manually check to see if the LoaderFiles folder is really deleted. of course, you will have to re-delete vender.xml

2) use JL commander of MFI tools or any one of the other tools that does it to completely wipe the phone (to the point where all you get is the 507 or better yet 502 screen.)

3) use loader.exe /nojvm switch to launch loader. this way it will try everything it can to connect to the bootrom directly (youll *need* this if you have a 502 error... not needed w/ a 507, but just do it to be safe)

4) if that doesnt work, then its probably a problem w/ your OS configuration or the like

go to another computer and use that.

Note: All commands (installing, uninstalling, running of programs...etc) should be done as ADMINISTRATOR!!!!!

let me know how that works out for you.

If you're running Vista, check the [C:/Users/________/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Apploader] folder for a vendor.xml file. Insert whatever your profile name is in the computer in the blank spot. I was having the same problem you were, and followed the steps prescribed and deleted the vendor.xml file under program files/common files/research in motion/apploader. It didn't work until I found that other Vendor.xml. I'm actually Loading 5.0 as I type this.
