Hands on review by lgreenberg

March 31, 2006

Price as reviewed: $9.95

One of my most favorites games for the Palm OS and a mainstay on every Palm device Ixxx8217;ve owned is the game Vexed. I was therefore thrilled when I saw that Mobigloo had released a new game called xxx8220;Nextxxx8221; for the Blackberry platform and that itxxx8217;s quite similar to Vexed.

The developer nicely offered to send me a copy of the game to review.

The game opens to the last level you were working on.

The object of the game is to move the pieces in the right sequence so that you match either 2 or 3 pieces together. Doing so causes the pieces to disappear. Once youxxx8217;ve removed all the pieces in a level you move to the next level.

You use the track wheel to select the piece you want to move.

The game uses a cool arrow feature to allow you to quickly move any piece to any spot you select.

At the bottom of the game there are some additional features.

Restart xxx8211; Restarts the current level.

You are asked to confirm you want to restart the level.

Undo xxx8211; Undoes your last move.

Previous xxx8211; Brings you back to the level you were on last.

Next - Brings you to the next level up.

Note: You can only go to a level youxxx8217;ve completed.

Help xxx8211; Displays help information.

Once youxxx8217;ve cleared all the pieces in the level youxxx8217;re working on youxxx8217;re brought to the next level.

Here Ixxx8217;m about to clear level 5.

And then Ixxx8217;m brought to level 6.

The game consists of 64 levels.

The game can be downloaded from the Mobigloo web site and purchased for $9.95. There is a limited trial version available to download as well.

There is no OTA download. The game must be installed using the Desktop Manager.

Also the game is formatted for the 72xx series screen and does not take up all of the 8700xxx8217;s screen. The developer has told me that they are working on a version which will utilize the entire screen.

If youxxx8217;re looking for a good puzzle game, one thatxxx8217;ll keep you busy, this is the one for you.

Pros: 64 total levels, nice user interface.
Cons: Doesnxxx8217;t use all of 8700xxx8217;s screen, no OTA download.

It's a great game. However, I am stuck at level 13.

I understand developers should get something for ther work, but vexed is a free game on palm and basicaly the same game costs for Bb. If i could fault Bb as a whole it would be the lack of decent freeware apps available. Think ill stick to brick breaker untill my scroll wheel dies, lol.

I did raise that point to the developer in another thread and the response I got was that this is not simply a port of Vexed. While gameplay might be the same Next has all new levels.

I can understand the fact it will have takes some time to write and a fair bit may have been writen from scratch, its just the Bb is missing much of the freeware community which makes things like the palm what they are today. But anyway thats a different matter.

Larry, I joined the forum for Next and it has been confirmed that they are working on another 64 levels of gameplay. And another con for the game is that it doesn't cover all of the screen on a 7100 series BB either. I have it on my 7100t and my 7105t.

Yeah, I'm still waiting on a version from them that covers the whole screen on the 8700. They told me it would be out by now.

I'm up to level 26 but can't get past it. I got as high as level 28 and, turned my phone off and lost everything. Does any one know how to get past level 26?
