Unhappy Radio turns off

Please Login to Remove!

I have an ATT 8700C and recently I have looked down to find the the wireless radio key has turned itself off. After I have taken it out of the holster it starts to look for the network and then connects. I do not know how long the unit has been off but I do know that it is irritating. By the way I have a very strong signal when the unit reconnects to the network. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it.
ATT is running the 8310 Curve on sale (internet) now for $99 after rebate and I will get that if there seems to be no easy fix on the 8700.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Never seen that, myself. And don't know what it could be. You are sure you are not doing it by accident? I guess you already tried battery pull? Maybe reinstall OS is the thing to try. But wait and see if anyone has a better idea.

Hi

I am having a similar problem with my 8700g. Someone will try to call my phone and be greeted by the voicemail message - depsite the fact the phone is on and in good signal range. When I go to call someone and dial the number and the message "radio is off - turn radio on?" appears and I click 'on,' and then sms messages that have been sent by others to me in that "off" time start to come through and I can then call out. It is really irritiating and now I find myself calling random numbers every now and then as it seems to be the only way I can tell if the radio is on or off. Any ideas?

Lav, have you dropped it? Got it wet? Any new aftermarket applications or themes? Have you tried pulling the battery for 30+ seconds? Can you try someone else's sim card to test if problem is your card?

I agree; I would start off with the battery pull and see where that takes you.

I have the same situation with a Blackberry 8700c I just got from a friend. I wiped it, put on the latest OS and it worked great all day and night yesterday, but today I keep getting dropped signals. This morning I received 3 messages that were sent earlier this morning. Network signal shifted between edge and GMS. For the past 3 hours, I have nothing but SOS. I've removed the battery and still no luck. I pop my SIM into my other cellphone and I have full signal and can make and recieve calls. Now I did download and install some themes last night from Crackberry.com and Pinstack, but I'm currently using one of the default themes. I love this gadget, but all the additional bells & whistles are not much use if I can't call or receive calls. I'll keep checking back to see if solution is found, and I sure will keep working at this myself.

It's been about 30 minutes since my last post, and I now have a strong EDGE signal. I didn't do anything, it just happened on it's own, but that makes this even more disturbing. We all want our devices to be reliable. For the moment, I'm not real confident to the reliability of my Blackberry. What a situation. I love this thing. Hope we can all come up with a solution. There has to be a common denominator. I'll keep in touch, please do the same.

My problem turned out to be hardware related. My friend brought me over another Blackberry (He works for AT&T) and thisone works fine. I do have a different problem, but it's software related so I'll play around with it first.

I've seen the radios turn off on 4.2 devices. I don't know what causes it but it does happen.

anyone got to the bottom of this? i have an old 8700 device which no longer turns ON(wireless radio) anymore. It either says "No Service" or "OFF" up the top righthand corner. I've tried another sim and another device and they work fine. Tried reinstalling the OS several times to no avail.

Haven't heard anything. I recommend keeping your OS up to date with the most current.

Default RF hardware failure.......

One of the more common hardware failures of the 8700 is the radio frequency (RF) section of the device. The BB stops transmitting or receiving, but everything else continues to work just fine. I've had it happen in the middle of a call. The RF section just dies, and the BB has to be replaced.

Yeah that happens occasionally, though not that often. What they're referring to is the wireless radio just turning off by itself. You can simply turn it right back on and it works fine. I've seen/experienced it myself. Can't explain it.

Default me too... curve

I have the 8320 with v 4.22 of the handheld software and have the same issue intermittantly.. it seems to happen when I'm in or leaving a WIFI area.. I have tried switching to Wireless network only, and actually witnessed it turning off the other day.. I looked at the screen and saw some activitity with the arrows going back and forth and then it just said "OFF".

Its very annoying.. I'm going to try running without Wifi to see if it still happens, but this has happened since I got the thing..

my 8130 has just started this, funny part is if i leave it on the manage connections screen the radio stays on. if i move from that screen it auto shuts off. its actually kind of amusing, it will send any pending data, wait 5 seconds and shut off. cant be a hardware thing as the device itself works under certain conditions, must be software, however i upgraded/downgraded and still nothing.

this also seems to coincide with my company exchange server being down lol. i wonder if the BES IT policy got changed/fubar-ed during the downtime. seems to automatically enable content protection as well. very very strange.
