Exclamation My 8100 got REALLY HOT!

Please Login to Remove!

I was in a meeting yesterday and went to check my email on my T Mobil 8100. As I pulled the pearl out of the holster, I noticed the keys (and the cover behind the keys) was extremely hot. The battery level at this point was 75-80%. I immediately took the phone apart and pulled the battery to let everything cool down. 10 minutes later I put it back together and turned it on. The phone started getting hot again and battery level was LOW on the verge of shut off. I shut it off again. I tried to charge the phone later that night and nothing.

Tried a new battery and the phone actually powered on ect as normal. But the phone started to heat up again. Has anyone experienced this?? Very strange.... Phone seems to be screwed

What's the story on the 8100? Did you buy it from TMO new? Is it under warranty? if so my advice is contact TMO and exchange it.

I tried that in a vendor's store. The phone would power on with the new battery but the heat started to build up right away, again. So I pulled out the battery and gave it back to the vendor.

If you're lucky, it's the battery which is stopping it from powering on. Otherwise, the overheating may have caused something critical to melt inside the unit. This happens to computer motherboard sometimes if the fan is not properly functioning or the vent is obstructed, never heard of it happening in a phone but I'm a noob. Good luck though.

Glad to hear that its happened to someone else! I thought I was the only one Looks like I'm going to have to terminate service and pay for an early termination fee but at least I'll get the new phone for free

Mine from Verizon gets hot when I tether it to my laptop, but never any other time. I had this issue with a previous BB. I tried a new batt and it never did it again.

I'd say take it to tmobile and try to return it. Worst thing is they say no right. It is a defect anyway maybe even RIM would replace it. Can't hurt.

I'd say try to open the device and check the battery contacts just inside the case and where they make contact with the board (I'm not terribly familiar with the innards of the Pearl) Make sure they are clean and nothing (even heavy dust) could be shorting them out.

Many times if a battery is heating up that fast there's an electrical short circuit somewhere. If there is, it'll turn your BlackBerry into a battery warmer.
