I just purchased a BB 8700g from Cincinnati Bell today. Got the BB service for $35 per month with no contract which I was pleased with. My concern is can this phone be unlocked and used with Cingular or the others down the road? If I move out of the Cincinnati area I certainly don't want to keep a Cincinnati phone number. Anyone know?
Also, can the 8700 be used as a modem for a laptop while tethered?
There are many unlocking threads and modem threads. Some of the info is at my tips site. You can unlock them and use them as a modem. Please search the threads for details.

Is Cincinnati Bell using GSM? If yes then you should be able to unlock the phone and use T-Mobile or Cingular the only two carriers in the US that use GSM.

I just went on their website... do you mean the 7100g instead?
go2duke said that because Cingular is the one carrying the 8700c. So if you had wanted a Blackberry to function on the Cingular network, you could have just purchased one from them.

But I'm confused too, so...
Nope it's a 8700. I noticed they don't have it on their site either. They didn't have one on the shelfs either, but I asked and he got me one from in back. I don't fully understand it, but Cincy Bell has some affiliation with Cingular. The BB even says Edge on it.
