Default Update Handheld software

Please Login to Remove!

I downloaded the Handheld software for my 7290 with Roger as the service provider. The current handheld version is 4.0 and found new version 4.1. I have desktop Manager v4.2. When I tried to install the handheld software, I got the message:

After completing the loading operation, you must activate your device wirelessly to continue to send and receive message and use other BlackBerry service. If you do not want to continue with this loading operation, press <Cancel>.

I click <Cancel> for now. Does it mean I have to reactive my BlackBerry with Rogers as well as re-register with the BES server?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, but I think both of those will happen automatically, or at least you will need to go to Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table and click to Register now. I am just not postive about the 7290, and maybe another user will chime in soon.

The registration with Rogers will happen automatically and if it doesn't it's easy to register it manually in the host routing table. However, BES activation will only happen automatically if you have an online connection with your company email and Desktop Manager is installe properly to communicate with your email profile. If your computer isn't setup properly then you'll need to contact your IT department for an Activation password to reactivate.

So every time I update the handheld software, I need to have the BES admin to reactivate my BES account? Does that I have to go through the complete account setup procedure i.e. via Enterprise activation, enter the password and wait for the sync to complete?

If this is not the right forum, I will post it in the BES admin forum.

Thanks
Che

I am updating the device and at the "Wait for device initialization" stage and over 5 minutes and I can still see the hour glass on the HH device. How long will it take for the device to finish the initialization?

The screen said don't disconnect anything until the complete process is done. How long should I wait?

Hope someone that is online will be able to help.

Thanks
Che

FYI, it finally came back after 10 minutes. Roger works but I did lose the BES stuff.

I noticed if you update is minor, from 4.0.1.x to 4.0.2.x then BES activation will not be needed. But if you go from 4.0.x to 4.1 or up then it does...But how often you are going to do os upgrade anyway...

cche, some BBs can take over an hour for that initial reboot after upgrading the OS. Much of that length of time is determined by your collection of phone logs and messages in the database.
