Let me clarify....

The 8700 has an Intel XScale processor in it.
The 8703 has a Qualcomm MSM6500 chip with integrated ARM9 core with a java accelerator called "Jazelle"

This is basically the same thing that happened with the 7750. Qualcomm integrates a "cpu" inside the CDMA chip creating an all-in-one chip that does voice, data, and also acts as the CPU. I suspect some things may feel slower on the 8703 because of this, however this chip is optimized for Java and Brew applications, so that may help even things out.
i hope thats its not sluggish like the xv6700 cause that thing froze so many times. lets see so the chip basically lags about 75mhz to the intel one

I see the press release. Based on the thread title I assume they mean sometime in the next 4 years. Safe bet I think.

I e-mailed Verizon about the ship date if I were to order on Sunday. They said it would arrive within five to seven business days.

I don't think the processor is the problem with the xv6700... I'm thinking it's more the OS...

Is this confirmed, or are you guessing?

Because Verizon has never put Get It Now on any of their Smartphones whether it be Blackberry, Palm, or Windows Mobile devices.

If they are indeed doing this, then that would be great. I really did like using Mobile IM on my LG phone. While some people hate that it uses SMS, I like it because it doesn't run down the battery.

My comment was directed at luxurynick, to show that you don't have to wait until October to get the thing, even if you're just a regular consumer.

About FedEx: I've waited for a couple of months now for this. Waiting another couple of days is not going to kill me.

Default Verizon Merits

I am a Verizon "Merits" customer which means I get to upgrade my phones every year. But the web site says I can only do it by speaking to a customer service rep or at a store. I can't get any customer service reps who will talk about the 8703, but does anyone know if I can order one by phone when it is web only on the 17th?

i wrote a letter to VZW stating the same exact thing.

Just so you know, for EVERYONE, if you have a plan over 59.99 for a year then you are eligible for an early upgrade, even if you are in a 2 year agreement... but you wont find that in any disclosures..

(Its how I got my xv6700)

VZW merits really has nothing to do with it.

it's free, but it seems to be available only to customers as they choose. I would imagine you would have to be with them for a certain period of time and spend a
minimum of XXXX per month..
