T-Mobile buying Sprint/Nextel??
Please Login to Remove!
I don't know how reliable the source is since I've only come across this on another cell phone website. Anyway, its an interesting read...i really doubt this will happen anytime soon, or ever for that matter. Oh well, its just a rumor.
Didn't T-Mobile just finish their merge with SunCom anyway?

This was posted a while back....pure speculation and rumor at this point. Doesn't make sense for TMo to buy Sprint/Nextel.

I hope not!
And I think T-Mobile US is smart enough NOT to buy Sprint. The are focused on taking care of their existing customers.
Doubling anyones customer base is a very hard feat to tackle. You got to be well prepared.
But Deutsche Telekom, looking at their history, it actually might work out as long as they keep it seperate.

the extra spectrum and WIMAX would be a huge asset though

Sprint is a MUCH larger company than Tmo USA. Unless Tmo's parent company gets involved there is absolutely no chance of this. Not to mention 29B in losses last year doesnt look to good for purchasing.

Sith, 29B in losses is something that I can't fathom...it hurts to think. $29 dollars in losses is enough to piss me off. haha, ouch!!!
I don't know what's going on with Sprint and why they're losing so much, but I think that if Sprint adopts the type of service that T-Mobile brings to their customers, Sprint would be a HUGE company to be reconned with. I am a T-Mobile customer and I do not wish to pick sides as to which company is better etc... BUT, why I choose to stay with T-Mobile is because of how they treat me and the uniqe services that they offer.
In my opinion, sprint needs to be 1000% more customer centric...retaining a customer is just as important as gaining new ones, actually, retaining helps the gain.

T-Mobile lacks a traditional local and long distance service and that's where it falls well behind the three largest wireless carriers in the United States (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint). The purchase of Sprint/Nextel would not only give T-Mobile the additional wireless spectrum, assuming it's for more than just the wireless business, but it would also give them Sprint's MPLS and core backbone infrastructure and Sprint's local and long distance services... those are each worth their weight in gold to T-Mobile, if they should want to gain any ground on the other two.

I would think they would purchase the Wireline side and not the Wireless side. IF they did purchase the entire corporation (which i do not see in the foreseable future), it would make sense for them to offer the existing CDMA infrastructure to Verizon, and recoup the cost of the purchase, or at least most of it. With Sprint losing customers the way it is on the Wireless side, it would take a company with a firm financial foothold, as well as existing technology that is compatible to really make a move. Of course, a 30million customer boost would put VZW back on top of the wireless game, and give them a massive increase in tower coverage and Rev A coverage areas. Meanwhile Tmo would move into a Third Slot and expand their wireline side from nothing to worldwide with a single purchase.
This is all complete speculation however. I do not see Tmo offering Wireline solutions. I do however see them pushing into the VOIP arena, perhaps as a competitor to Vonage. They wouldnt have to build their entire infrastructure, and would be able to leverage their UMA services for both wireless and wireline.
Just the ramblings of a very tired Sith at this point.

Why would a very strong multinational telecommunications company buy a second tier carrier losing customers by droves? This simply doesn't fit with the existing DT strategy.
Not to mention there would all sorts of issues with a "Foreign" carrier buying a domestic local/long distance carrier, right?
I don't see this happening. Must have been floated by some Sprint executives

In addition to what others have already posted, other issues with this rumored acquisition would be:
Converting (or as sith pointed out) spinning off the CDMA network. If you convert it to GSM, you also have to convert your new customers' handsets as well-a time consuming and expensive exercise with some risk of churn because of it.
What to do with Push To Talk-TMO doesn't currently sell or support this-keep it or spin it off, too?
Ditto WiMax.

Why not purchase and not change anything. Just change the people at the top as well as the customer service culture and continue to build and innovate on both networks? I think the 29bln in write down was the calling the whole buyout a lose. they didnt really lose 29bln dollars on the books. Debt and buy out money and compensation packeges is included in that number.

I would love if TMobile took over Sprint. I think that Sprint needs to be bought out soon before all hell breaks loose.

I think a buyout will happen. Total guess on my part, but I think it will either be a non-North American carrier (SK, DoCoMo), or a "non traditional" domestic technology entity (Google, Apple).

TMobile bought out SunCom< good move for TMobile, buying shitel you ask, uhmm no thats not going to happen.
In 03 TMobile was looking to buy Nextel and expand into the iDEN network (looking to merge iDEN and GSM, YES there was talk of doing just that) TMobile was looking to launch PPT taking the iDEN network and pushing it well beyond anything we have ever seen, Qchat pfft: Qchat could only wish to become what TMobile had in mind for the iDEN Network!!
Well Nextel being the "high on the horse" asshats that they were more or less told TMobile No "we will never be bought out!!"< good call on that on Nextel, but hey at least you bought NASCAR
^ Long story short
So thats that, I feel as thought TMobile is doing very well in the cellular market both here in the US and overseas, to buy into a CDMA market would be unheard of, JMO.

because sprint is run by a bunch of lazy idiotic retards and their CS sux. The only reason why they are still afloat is because they rent ther airspace out to mnvos like virgin and helio an qworst wireless. Even then they are still 30 mill in the reds.
