Default Blackberry Push Service

Please Login to Remove!

Back around May RIM announced the BB Push Notification Service and I haven't seen any apps that yet use it.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/develop...b_tab_overview

Apple has had this on the Iphone for a while now and, while they use it to mitigate the lack of background app support it has grown on me.

Push notification has been great for breaking news alerts, weather alerts, sports scores etc, and doesn't require the app to be running in the background. Alerts are almost instant and actually very useful.

Anyone heard anything more on it on the BB platform?

Don't apps like Weatherbug Elite, Facebook and others use this technology?

Back in May? I've been using push services in my corporate programs since 2006, and it existed before then. Push mail and MDS-CS push data from an enterprise server is what sets Blackberry appart from other smart phones. Perhaps you're thinking of Web Signals, and there are lots of applications that use that.

To the contrary, I have yet to see any application on an iPhone that duplicates Blackberry push functionallity.

Yes, but they seem to be the only two out there and Facebook is written by RIM I believe. I would love to see one for breaking news (like the Iphone BNO News app or CNBC) as well as some sports score apps.

As a side note, is it just me or has the frequency of new, creative business focused apps dried up for the BB?

See link in my first post. I'm quite familiar with MDS Services but this is for non MDS without a BES. This is push notifications not push email, etc.

I don't think the frequency has changed much over the years that I've used the BB. It has always been fairly low.
