Default Attachment conversion failed?

Please Login to Remove!

When downloading an attachment sql1234.txt we get an error "the document conversion failed." Why would this be the case, can't it just convert it or read it as a text file?

From RIM:

Possible Causes and Solutions:

The attachment file type is invalid or not supported - Users should view the file on their desktop using the appropriate desktop software application.

The attachment is corrupt - Corrupt attachments cannot be opened using the attachment service.

The attachment is too large or complex, which causes the conversion to time out - This timeout is most common for .pdf files or ASCII .txt files that are larger than 10 MB. Users should view the file on their desktop.

The attachment size exceeds the maximum attachment size that is set by the corporation - Users should view the file on their desktop.

The attachment service is busy - It rejects any new attachment conversion requests until it is free. This rejection might occur if the user attempts to view an attachment while other users within the corporation are requesting large or complex attachments (specifically .pdf files). Users should wait 5 minutes, and then request the attachment again. The maximum request time for a conversion is 10 minutes.

---text files are supported

---not corrupt, displays on desktop

---approx 50kb in size, not exactly large

---nobody else is requesting anything at the time, also an issue on webclient
We tried forwarding this to a webclient address also and get the same error. When downloading the attachment to a computer it auto opens into notepad without issue.

Something with this particular file then, characters in it not being parsed correctly or something along those lines.

Out of curiosity, create a new txt file, copy and paste the contents of the other file into it, then send that new file to the BB and see if it opens.

Ok, this is really weird. If I download the attachment and then create a new email to my BB, then I still can't get it to convert. If I open instead of download the file, then save it and then send it in a new email I can view full content, but not TOC.

Something in that file is screwing the BB, possibly characters or encoding. Again, if you copy the contents of that file into the body of an email and sent it to your bb, can you view it?

Yes I can view it. As per what I wrote in a post above "If I download the attachment (to my desktop) and then create a new email (using outlook) to my BB, then I still can't get it to convert. If I open (in notepad) instead of download the file, then save it (same *.txt extension) and then send it in a new email (using outlook) I can view full content, but not TOC."

open it in wordpad and save it (no changes need to be made). send it to the handheld and see if you can view it now.
