Default Moving BES 4.0 to new server

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help.
We are currently running BES 4.0 (MSDE) on Windows 2000 Server, and need to move it over to a new server (Different Hardware) running Windows 2000 (MSDE) with a different name. SRP and BES service account will remian the same.

I have searched through some posts, and I don't think this will be that painful. Can anyone tell me the steps that I will need to take, and things (If any) that I need to watch out for. Any help will be appriciated.

i'm not going to be rude and simply tell you to search, because you have atleast done that, but this has been put out in detail - scattered and in a single thread (multiple times).

http://www.blackberryforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 (BES Admin Corner; the forum you posted in)

At the top right, click on "Search this forum" and type 'BES 4.0 migrate' as well as 'BES 4.0 move' and I'll guarantee that you find an abundance of threads that you can either copy verbatim from (I know that I've personally stated the steps) and/or gather information from multiple threads and compile your own list. Lastly, I'm sure that I remember reading a document from RIM on the subject, as well.

Oh yeah, someone asked the same question (or something similar) just a few posts down, as well - same topic, actually.

And yes, I know it took longer for me to write this than it would have if I simply put the steps, but sometimes we all simply need to learn to use the resources that are already in place.

Install msde and bes on the new box, patch it up to the same level, just dont start the services.

Shut down the services on the old bes, also shut down msde. export the user list.

copy the .mdf and .ldf files from the old to the new bes and use oslq to mount them. start up msde.

create a new server with the same name as the old one. import the users from the list. start up the services.

pray. note: this is very important.

ps. this is a very rough guide. you can almost get away with not copying over the databases, just importing the users. the users will have to re-wireless activate however.

they'd also have to security wipe their devices if policy is to work again...

I usually recommend that anyway, but some people don't like it/don't think to sync beforehand *shrugs*

What do yo mean by "creating a new server"?

Extraxt from BES 4.0 Maintenance Guide:

Quote:
Note: You can also use this procedure to migrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server onto new hardware.

Create a new server that meets requirements:
has the same host name as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that it is replacing
It is necessary to use the same physical server name when move a bes 4.0 to new hardware?

If you're reusing the databases yes. Unless you go in and change the db values.
