Welcome to the forums!

Do you have a BlackBerry data service on your account with your carrier?

Using date services (Internet, e-mail) require an additional BalckBerry specifc data service be added to your account. Give your carrier a call, they can tell you if you have it, or if not, what options you have for getting one added. Usually you will have a choice of allowances and monthly rates, kind of like your airtime services.

Some phones are set to access the internet thru the carrier you buy it from. If you don't want their data plan you can still access on a pay as you go. Blackberry's are not that way. You need the data plan. I have never heard of being able to use another browser to bypass the data plan. You can use other browsers like Opera, but I am fairly sure you still need the BB data plan. Maybe someone can correct me.

That is correct. Data plan is required for internet on a Blackberry.

No that's not true..

I don't have a data plan I have pay-as-you-go and I use opera to access the internet with no problems. I also use Google maps all with no data plan.

A guide here

How does your data charges compare to the data plan charge? My guess is your way is much more expensive.
