Last night the BlackBerry Desktop Manager wanted to do an update. I've done these updates in the past so I thought it would be safe.

This new version - 6.0.0.40 (Released August 3, 2010 Bundle 42) does not have the Roxio Media manager. I have to be able to copy files between the BlackBerry file system and my PC. Not just from the music, pictures and video directories. I have files in other locations of the file system for my application.

It wasn't moved to another site; just to the forum it belongs, to keep things orderly for those browsing and searching later.

There is no roxio media manager anymore. The media functions are integrated into desktop manager, and there is no pluggin to install.

The media functions may be integrated, but they only allow you to interact with data on the SD card. No local files are displayed. I believe THAT is the issue at hand. How do you move files on/off of local memory? Roxio used to do that. Without it you cannot touch them from your PC. Personally, I get around this with WiFi FileTransfer.

You are right. I don't use it, but looks to me it is the media sync function that was retained and the roxio media manager function is gone.

I guess the solution with the new DM is either (a) change practice to put files on the memory card to begin with, or (b) do a two-step process of moving the files to the card using the device, then use mass storage mode to access the card with the computer. I'm not making any judgement; just saying what it looks like to me.

As far as I could tell, the only real use of the old media manager was ability to access files in main memory from the PC, and abilty to copy/move encrpted files from the device to the computer and have the files arrive on the computer unencrypted. I think most people just used mass storage mode and managed files with My Computer. And given the problems with the roxio plugin, that was the wise thing to do.

That's still what I do... Use file explorer/my computer on the computer to access the media card and copy/move files between the device and the computer. It's all around the easiest way to do it, I think.
